I watched some of the match and was rather hoping we would lose to have an excuse to get rid of Benitez (I gave up on him about 2 years ago).

I'm feeling very sorry for Standard Liege. Last season their first European game was against Zenith, this year it was against Liverpool and in both instances they got booted undeservedly. Pavlyuchenko (finally) signs for Spurs
£14m is high, but considering we paid around that for Bent and Bentley, and we're likely to sell Berbatov now, it's good business IMO. Decent goals per game for club and country too, so I'm confident he won't be another Rebrov at least.
Berbatov can now finally fulfill his "dream" and go to (no, not Newcastle
) Man Utd, but more importantly stop sulking on the Spurs bench.

Seems Everton were pretty desperate to handicap their upcoming opponents in the UEFA cup.Everton have smashed the Club record transfer fee after completing the signing of Belgian international Marouane Fellaini from Uefa Cup opponents Standard Liege.
