  • My post after the game, quite magnanimous I thought?? In any case its hardly showing "no class" in defeat.

Hey ho, we had our chance to finish the tie in the second half and didn't take it. Def a pen for Sami though....I guess we're just unlucky.

I havn't said we went out because of the penalty decision (except in a sarcasitc reference directed at your previous complaining about lucky Liverpool), I'm just saying both the Liverpool-Arsenal and Liverpool-Chelsea ties were very similar, close ties that could have gone either way. Yet Arsenal were "unlucky" to lose by 2 goals but somehow Liverpool were just "beaten" by 1 goal???. A neutral would say Riises' OG was probably the turning point in the tie, to call it "justice" just shows your bias on the subject.

    • Maquiladora:
Liverpool's penalty claim against Chelsea is practically non-existent in the press, so I don't know what they thought of it...
The coverage of the match I watched flagged that as a definite penalty, with all panel members concurring (no ex-Liverpool players). I didn't think it was one during the match but the post-match analysis replays changed my mind.

If your "we're just unlucky" comment really was just sarcastic without meaning then fine, but to say that seriously after what happened to Liverpool in the two previous rounds would be ****ing rich TBH.

Good, show me then, or was it Andy Gray too?

        • Guys, can we just look forward to Stoke getting promoted today, please?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Video available here of analysis of the Chelsea-Liverpool match. It's divided up into various pieces. Post match analysis is split in half. I'm not sure which of those two pieces it's contained within since I don't have real player installed.

The panel actually agreed that Hyypia dived, but said if he hadn't it would've been given.

Perhaps this is why the BBC and Sky Sports don't even mention it.

                • That panel agreed that Hyypia was fouled and then dived, or deliberately fell in a theatrical manner, to accentuate the fact that he had been fouled. By doing so, he drew attention to his fall and away from the challenge made against him.

They've actually being coming back to that type of incident again and again in the last couple of weeks. A notable case being a foul on Wayne Rooney (possibly by Blackburn's Steven Reid) in the Premiership a week or two ago. Rooney held himself up for a split second before throwing himself to the ground.

Edit: Since I haven't the appropriate software installed, I can't review the clip, but the comments were at least made in the same context as comments about similar incidents, such as the above mentioned Rooney dive, in recent weeks. The panel thought it should have been a penalty and that by diving Hyypia reduced the odds of it being awarded.

Eto'o had a golden chance to go down against Man Utd but skipped the challenge without stopping. Makes me respect him even more Had that been Deco it would have been a different story.

As for the Hyppia penalty claim, I'm finding it hard to call him unlucky for not getting a penalty because he dived to make it appear more clear.

                    • I never said it was unlucky. And fully agree about Eto'o.

Have you heard the guy they have on the 5 Live advert? He phones in to discuss Stokes promotion prospects and the presenter says thinks Stike will struggle to stay up if promoted. The Stoke fan just goes into this rant about staying up the first year, mid table the second and then 5th and Europe the third season. All you can hear is the panel laughing in the background.

                          • oh, of course. I expect Stoke to get relegated with the record lowest points and worst score differnce ever. I just want to be able to watch it on MotD.
