  • Okay, I did a little homework by prepping an Excel document (Paul's old sheets aren't around anymore so I had to remake it from scratch) and looked up the rules we used before. I propose the rule set as specified below, which is entirely based on what was used during WC06. Does this still work for everyone? Please provide any feedback on stuff you'd like to see changed, I'll start a thread for posting predictions in a few days, providing any rules discussion has been settled by then.

    Things to Predict
    1) The European Champion.
    2) The top scorer in the tournament.
    3) The 4 group winners in the first round.
    4) The 4 teams finishing second in their group in the first round.
    5) The scores for each match.

    Scoring System
    1) 10pts for predicting the European Champion, 3pts if they are runner-up.
    2) 10pts for predicting the tournament top scorer, 3pts if they are runner-up.

    3) 5pts for predicting the winners of each group. 2pts if they actually place second.
    4) 5pts for predicting the second placed teams in each group. 2pts if they actually place first.

    5) For each match, the following number of points is awarded. Format: 2+2 means 2pts if the outcome ('home' win/draw/loss) is correctly predicted + 2 points if the exact score is predicted.
    In the group stages: 2+2
    In the quarter finals: 3+3
    In the semi finals: 4+4
    In the final: 5+5

    Other Rules:
    - Predictions can be made or changed up to 5 minutes before kick off.
    - If you wish to change your prediction do so in a new post.
    - Changing predictions could potentially lead to abuse by people editing their posts -- therefore it is advised that you do not edit any posts in which you make predictions.
    - The result used is the result after 90 minutes (+ injury time) -- extra time and penalty shoot-outs do not count.
    - In the group stage, should lots need to be drawn for placing teams, the final placings are the placing as per the draw of lots.
    - The top scorer is the player or players who score the most goals as tracked by UEFA, which includes goals scored during extra time but does not include goals scored during penalty shoot-outs.

    • Screw that! What about important stuff like predicting who will win the FA Cup out of Cardiff and Portsmouth!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

That's okay, I forgot about it myself I think I'll wait until 2 weeks before kick-off before starting the prediction pool, I don't want it to drop off the first page before the tournament even starts

He's an idiot. Your team is going nowhere with that crap manager. If you're going to join a London team, you might as well join Arsenal or Chelsea. Spurs are to London what the Mackems are to the North East.

What to sit on the bench? Bilic is spot on, Modric is 22, he needs playing time to develop his game. He'll play regularly at Spurs, and if he plays well he'll become a legend.

                      Those last two pictures

Do you enter automatically or into the CL qualifiers?

If you see any Ajax fans anytime soon, be sure to tell them: Helemaal niets! Helemaal niets! Helemaal niets in Amsterdam!

Qualifiers, of course. The distribution of CL places is sadly ridiculously lobsided in favour of Italy/Spain/England: below the top-5 on the UEFA rankings only national champions qualify directly and below the top-9 not even them.

Well I doubt I'll meet any in Mexico, but if I do hopefully it won't get me in trouble.

I did see a few people with old Ajax shirts when I went to see the CL Trophy tour in Monterrey, kinda outnumbered by Barcelona shirts though as you can imagine.

It is pretty sad when you win your league and still have to qualify for the cash cow known as the "Champions League".

Wiki says Twente go in at the 3rd qualifying rnd (although unseeded I think), so you do get a UEFA cup spot if you don't qualify.

Although with Milan, Valencia, Sevilla, Benfica, plus the CL group stage dropouts, it's gonna be pretty tough for anyone next season.

Well, if they seem like they understand Dutch and look like the explosive type, might wanna be ready to run if you're not ready to fight

Yeah, pretty sad affair. I don't mind in the slightest that a club like Twente has to qualify but it's retarded that the champions of countries like Scotland, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Greece and Turkey have to qualify (and not unusally even unseeded) when half the spots in the first round are basically reserved for teams from 5 countries.

Yup, basically we get a free shot at almost doubling our gross revenue (while getting thoroughly trounced by some of Europe's finest ) and if that fails there's still same-old UEFA Cup where we'll no doubt lose in the first round again to some obscure eastern European club because we always suck against those type of teams Still, I'll take it, if only to deny CL to Ajax

Oddly enough CL dropouts only very rarely win the UEFA Cup thankfully (losing mode I guess), but yeah, next year's lineup looks pretty tough.

More footage of the biggest party I've ever been to

Well, you will. I've decided to stop following the PL. I hope KK does OK, although I suspect he'll get fed up. If you don't like the Champions League (which I don't) and you don't support Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal, there just isn't any point to it any more. Frankly, the football isn't much good either.

So next season the NHL will be my primary sporting interest, although I'll keep an eye on Rochdale, who I've always had a soft spot for.

                                Best of luck.

PS. The CL final is crap so far. The best bit was Carvalho nearly breaking that wanker Ronaldo's leg.
