  • Quite a lot by the looks of it. And I am enjoying it. Andrew has always talked a good game but never backed it up with results.

Sadly Henson is running scared and claiming injury today.

    • Ospreys: Lee Byrne; Johnny Vaughton, Sonny Parker, Andrew Bishop, Shane Williams; James Hook, Justin Marshall; Paul James, Richard Hibbard, Adam Jones, Alun Wyn Jones, Ian Evans, Ryan Jones (capt), Marty Holah, Filo Tiatia.

Replacements: Huw Bennett, Duncan Jones, Ian Gough, Jonathan Thomas, Gareth Owen, Jonathan Spratt, Aled Brew.

I like that centre partnership (from Tigers point of view). The Great Orange One has not made the cut!

I wonder if the lock Evans can stay on the field for a full 80 minutes as well?

Should Ospreys beat us I am sure I will see much more of our Welsh friends on the thread next week.

      • Kick it to Sonny Parker. Every time.

        Leicester bench isn't bad, either.

        • Except for the geriatric French scrummy?

Nice to see Mr Mauger back

          • Is the guy with the silly name a geriatric French scrummy?

            Speaking of Ospreys centres:

Big-spending Welsh region the Ospreys are believed to be targeting an All Black centre in the summer.

Auckland Blues and New Zealand backs Isaia Toeava and Ben Atiga are thought to be top of their shopping list.

Toeava, who has 15 caps, was part of the New Zealand World Cup squad, while Atiga was capped once four years ago. Both can also offer cover at full-back.
I only have vague recollections of Atiga, but Toeava, who is big and strong and quick, has only one problem - catching the ball. Why are Ospreys drawn to Kiwi centres who can't catch the ball?

            • Because the only truly world class Welsh centre plays for Blues?

Yes you have the scrummy taped correctly - I must assume Frank Murphy, who was the main incumbent whilst Ellis was injured, is either injured himself or has fallen right out of favour. As has young Ben Youngs apparently.

                  • Jeez, Havak, what a load of Leicester drivel. Couldn't do to Ospreys what Sarries did. In fact, Ospreys did it to Leicester because Leicester let them. Poor defence, poor forwards, poor back row, poor momentum, poor team selection. Varndell was obviously one very happy uncamper and I don't blame him.

                    • Just out of interest, anyone care to nominate their chosen Lions 15 (or even 22)? You will, of course, as always, leave your biases at the door before entering the room.

                      • Beaten by a better side on the day thats for sure - but it is a concern that they were so desperately woeful and bereft of not just ideas but basic skills.

And did my eyes deceive me or was there no tunnel from us after the match - that bothers me more than how badly they played.

Mauger has come in for some serious stick - biggest earner on the books and my word he had a shocker. He stands accused of being on vacation by some of the more vocal critics.

Here is my take on it though Finbar - that rumour I heard about the coaches is true I believe. Loffreda and Cockerill do not get on - easy enough to spot that from the TV on Saturday really. One or the other has to go so we can get some unity back at the club. I don't really care which it is.

A welsh slam, beaten by Ospreys, a tour to NZ looming - 2008 is shaping up to be a year that I want to forget!

And yes the irony that the egomaniacs replacement scored the first try (by running through George Chuter - who had a shocker) was not lost on me!

                        • If the coach doesn't go, Varndell might. His body language reeked of frustration - the substitution that wasn't, when he went on and came off again; and, at the end, having pointlessly played the last couple of minutes, straight off the pitch, grabbed his stuff from the bench, and away. Why they stuck with Ollie Smith I will never know.

Interesting reading some of the Kiwi media. Leicester had all but signed Nick Evans, but now it's Hernandez. But Nick Evans is probably heading north regardless. Quality halves are going to be thin on the ground in New Zealand.

                          • Perhaps both Evans and Hernandez will come to us - Humphries seemes to have dropped off the radar and the knives are certainly out for Goodey.

That is Tigers for you - we have the Premierships all time leading points scorer and still our fans are calling for his head.

I heard Cockerill defending the selection of Smith - apparently he was a better counter to Williams than Varndell. Only Cockerill (and perhaps jka) might buy that one. Methinks saturday was a wrist slap for Tom - we may never find out why.

Adding to my confusion over Smith's selection is the fact that he is leaving us in the summer.

That said Ollie was far from the worst player on the pitch for us on Saturday.

                            • Nick Evans wouldn't pack up and go all that way to play back up. I assumed they played Ollie Smith on the basis that his defensive work on the Ant might be stronger than Varndell, but it's a very negative approach. And they lacked attacking spark all day. Along with everything else.

                              • The report now is that Nick Evans could finish up with the Dragons. The truly odd thing, too, is that Leicester seem to be looking at Craig Newby from the Highlanders. Apparently they flew his wife over to check out the place. Does Leicester need another back rower?
