Toronto actually played better than I expected -- they had their chances throughout but at the end of the day its Ottawa with 4 points and Toronto with one

      I don't think I agree.

The transition game was not good at all and there were far too many give-aways and icings.

As in the early season last year, Rolie held them in there. Even then, he needed help from the goal posts.

The Sharks looked quite good, and this is near the 1st game that more than half of the team played together, and Moreau was out... so I'm not upset. The Oilers are going to have to gel fast though, or it could be a long first 10 games... 20... 40... season.

He's definitely stupid, but what do you expect from a computer geek who relies on statistics without understanding the game.

Come to think of it, you two have a lot in common.

He's not a computer geek, he's a statistician. Very different.

As for not understanding the game -- compare our fantasy teams, who had the better draft?

Last I checked my goalie stats were way better and I had ~5x as many points.

            • Okay, Geek type A vs Geek type B. Same diff

Well, when you get the first pick compared to the last pick...

And two days into the season when a lot of my players haven't even played yet...

My first pick hasn't played a game yet.

So you've had 2 picks higher than my first pick to play play games.

                • Shocker! Havlat injured already.

How long until Gaborik gets injured? 1, 2 weeks?

while I do like your goalie picks and anyone would acknowledge that a shutout, win and 1.000 sv% are stellar, even "perfect"-- to read too much into one goalie game each seems a bit premature (although I do like Mason/Nashville against Dallas)

Oh I think it will be a long season for Edmonton and I agree with pretty much all your comments. Don't read too much into my "nice game" comment. It was mainly frustration that shootouts have been my downfall twice this week. But Edmonton played exactly well enough to give themselves a chance for two points. IT wasn't pretty but two points is two pooints

I was just peeved that Nabokov did not pick up the win--

I know not to read too much into 1 goalie game, but the point still stands.

I'd take Mason over Toskala, for instance.

                          • Oh and a comment on Calgary

I thought they played well through some lengthy stretches of the game (later in the game) although Iggy was mainly ineffective. Kipper was "good" (no cheap goals) but not great .. . Phaneuf was one of the best playrs on the ice, and the Flames made some exceptionally bad giveaways that cost them the game

Iron mike showed that he will shorten his bench pretty early--4th liners saw 2,5, and 9 minutes respectively. Phaneuf played 30 minutes while in a surprise Regehr only played 18

It was odd game in that I thought Tanguay played well while Iggy seemed non-existent

                            • Iggy is a slow started, historically. As is Kipper.

The Flames' season starts in November.

Two goals each from Briere and Lecavalier were nice. and I'm just happy to be splitting the goalie stats so far based mainly on the play of an undrafted goalie

Its just tonight, if Nabokov plays, its against Luongo--that on the back of consecutive road games . . . I still hope for the San Jose win
                                but its not easy

Goalie wins are likely to be in doubt until San Jose at Colorado on Sunday -- could be fun to go head to head for the category
