Ah well, so much for my plan to draft Niklas Backstrom to end the draft.

Well you PARTIALLY executed your plan-- But in this draft, Asher gets both the first and last word

WE should have added a 15th round

Of course it's bull****.

We can create a simple majority vote veto simply by deciding to do so just like we can create an appeal system on the commish ruling even if it is not part of the yahoo system.

This is simple: its our pool, we can do what we want.

So basically, you vote for option 2 (where the majority ultimately decides what happens).

You were incorrect and you're trying to back pedal here. You cannot use the Yahoo league settings to set up a majority-rules league vote. It's fixed at 1/3.

Getting everyone to vote on the forum isn't my first choice either -- chances are on any given 2 day period you won't get most people posting in here. For this reason, it makes most sense to the commish to immediately action trades if there is suspected collusion/firesale, and then afterwards we can use majority rule to overturn it if necessary.

[Asher]

teh Horcs gets demoted from 1st line to 3rd.

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/hockey_hearsay/2007/09/24/unhappy_training_camper/

Unhappy training camper

With the Oilers determined to rolli the dice on youngsters Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano, veteran centre Shawn Horcoff is doing his best to adapt to his new role down the depth charts.

Joanne Ireland of CanWest News Service writes the writing has been on the locker-room wall for Horcoff since training camp opened.

When he has looked at the board and seen Dustin Penner-Sam Gagner-Ales Hemsky scribbled in on the first line, he has told himself that the team's decision makes some sense.

Meanwhile Horcoff has skated with Ethan Moreau and Kyle Brodziak.

"I view myself as a player who can give more than third-line centre minutes but I understand the situation," said Horcoff. "At this point I'm just getting myself ready to start the season."

When Penner became an Oiler after signing a free-agent offer sheet during the summer, it was assumed that Horcoff would centre that top line, just as he did in recent seasons.

"What we're talking about is five-on-five ice for [Horcoff]," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "Maybe his role will be more important, more impactful for us, if he is playing on a second or third line."

Atta boy MacT, keep morale high!

ASher my only quibble is that you need pretty strong evidence IMHO. The default idea should always be that trades are valid and people are acting as best they can.

But if someone trades a point a game forward for a half a point a game forward that is behind in all 5 stats, if I were commish I would ask about it. If the guy supposedly getting the lesser player has a good reason that should be the end of it

Have there been "firesales" in the past? Did they involve anyone in this group?

THis is all for fun. If someone would be party to something as silly and stupid as a firesale, ruining the league in essence, well that says a lot about them. How petty would someone have to be to cheat in a hockey pool?

[Ninot]

I think it's pretty simple: if a team is out of the playoffs, their trade should immediately come into question. Specially if they are far out of it.

[snoopy369]

Is there a trade deadline? This is one huge reason for having a trade deadline in fantasy leagues, one I support, of 2/3 or so through the season (or two weeks after the RL trade deadline). It eliminates the ability to trade for a last minute injury replacement, of course, but that is not usually a big deal; and it makes it much less likely for firesale trades to happen.

If you wanted you could go even further and either have an early trading deadline or a prohibition of trades between teams that are in with those that are not in playoff contention.

I would agree to any of that although part of me still (perhaps naively) hopes that the fact that someone is out of the playoffs won't mean that they try to spoil things for everyone else.

I know myself, If I am in 11th place , I will be trying till the very last week to try to eke into 10th. The thought that I would firesale is repugnant. I would like that everyone has the equal right to trade but if a restriction on non-playoff teams makes things easier/simpler then go with that as well.

Oh BTW how many teams make the playoffs?? Do the non-playoff teams play a consolation round (or was that moot last year with people disappearing)?

[Asher]

I think 8 teams make the playoffs. The others play a consolation round.

[Ninot]

6 teams in meaningful playoffs, 6 in loser playoffs.

I dont think all trading between the top and bottom tier should be stopped, but if the trade is even remotely 1 sided, I think it should be heavily scrutinzed

I'm not even sure he will stick with the team but with 4 assists against Vancouver, I am betting for now that he will.

Since its last round, I agree with Ninot that you take a flyer on someone-- If they don't work out, its pretty easy to pick up a free agent

Oh and the large part of my delay is that I have trouble accessing internet during lunch time here. Its like everyone starts surfing and internet is super slow.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Sidney Crosby left practice Monday with a sore groin.

"I felt it a bit," Crosby said. "It was just gradual as the practice wore on. I did not have as much jump as I thought I should have had."

Crosby said his groin injury is "not near" the severity of the one that caused him to miss three games last November. Pittsburgh lost all three games when he was out.

Crosby had 36 goals and 84 assists for an NHL-best 120 points last season.
