a conservative pick, but I figure NJ's defense will be better than it would be with Briant Sutter as coach. The only reason I'd draft Kipper instead is because he has a better team infront of him.

That, and with these high picks making a team a one trick pony, great goaltending is a great, steady trick

We announced the draft would start on the 15th. There should be no recriminations or complaints until that day. We will hit the coconut man soon and then have to wait for him for a bit. If we're lucky he'll check in and we can proceed.

I was hoping due to the Keenan saga, Kipper would still be available in the 2nd round. I really don't think Kipper would be pulled frequently, mainly because I've very rarely seen Kipper give a performance worthy of pulling. Even Brodeur and Luongo had more really bad nights last season. Even then, the skill difference between Kiprusoff and his backup (likely Krahn) is night and day.

I didn't expect Kipper to be available even for my first pick . If he was there was NO WAY I would not have picked him. It was a zero percent chance he would make it out of the first round undrafted.

That's funny, I drafted him in the 2nd round of a 12-person league just on Sunday.

Yahoo pegs him as an average round of 1.5. To me it looks like half the time it's round 2, half the time it's round 1.

I saw that and I wondered if it had to do with the stats used. For us, goalies are 3 of 8 categories right? If goalies were even 4 of 10 or 3 of 9 categories ( a seemingly marginal change) I know I would weight goalies a fair bit less

The other possibility that can skew the 1.5 stat is the size of the league-- Are there many 6 or 8 team leagues at yahoo?

The main reason I see to not take Kipper first round is his slow starts in the last couple of season. His numbers in the first few weeks were not the type that would win the goalie categories.

Oh well --its moot now. Its definitely a step down to the rest of the goalies though
