No I am not. I adressed this in the last part of my post. In the FIFA world cup (football) the teams are assembled almost a month before the actualy tournament, and then said competition lasts another month after that.

As I said, the IIHF has no balls. I'll tell you what would happen in football if a tournament (like the Stanley Cup) got that much power that it threatened the status of the world cup. They would be given the option to move their schedule, and conform with FIFA standars.

Failure to do that would result in any number of things, up to and including: They would lose the right to call their sport football. They would probably lose the right to play be the same or even similar rules, as FIFA owns the rule set as well. Players participating in the rogue competition would receive life-time bans from playing in any FIFA competition. etc. etc.

So the case here is clearly, that the IIHF hasn't got complete control over their sport, which is sad in and of itself

Which explains why they can't come close to competing with Canadian players when the stakes matters, doesn't it? Typical heartless Russian.

I suggest you re-read my post.
I suggest you learn English. I read what you wrote.

No comments. Fancy Canadian education. No comments.

      Formation
      - Declared June 12, 1990
      - Finalized December 25, 1991

I'll bite though -- Russia was founded in 1991, not 1990. My bad!

I really don't care for excuses. I'm telling it as it is.

You're as terrible at being smart as you are at playing hockey!

Just trying to point out to you the absurdity of the situation. Doesn't seem like I am getting anything across, though

The Russian Federation (founded in 1991, btw, which is not the same is Russia) is the official successor of the USSR. So every Olympic Gold USSR had, now counts as the Russian gold.
Both Canada and Russia have 7 Olympic gold in hockey, but what really matter is the history of two teams encounters at Olympics. You've won your Gold only when you didn't face us, otherwise you've been assinated (at least 8 times out of nine). Period.

I agree it's absurd, which is precisely why there's little to no meaning in the tournaments. They're absurd.

Nope. I don't care for your excuses.

                    Russia didn't earn those.

We may as well count all NATO medals as Canadian ones? Hell, why don't we do that!

Hey, I just read that Dion Phaneuf is going to play for Canada starting with tomorrow's game.

NATO is a military alliance of MANY COUNTRIES. Russian Federation (which didn't exist prior to 1991) is the SUCCESSOR of USSR (which doesn't exist since 1991).
                        Don't you see the difference? It's just a re-branding.

It's not, because you don't have the same countries.

Pre-1991, Belarus was part of the USSR...now they send their own team.

Why do I have to teach you Russian history?

                            And?
IIRC, absolute majority of Byelorussian players (if not all of them) play in the Russian league and have a double citizenship like team Kazakhstan. In times of the USSR players from RSFSR formed a backbone of Soviet hockey team. How many famous non-Russian players of the Soviet Olympic team do you know? I bet none. I can name few. Russians were the Soviet Hockey (sorta like Saras's claim that Lithuanians were the Soviet basketball, which is true to some extent).

Why do I have to teach you Russian history?
                            1) You don't know a thing about Russian history. So, I would prefer you teach me English instead.
                            2) Why do I have to teach you jurisprudence (hate this word)? The Russian Federation is the successor of the USSR almoust in every aspect from permanent seat in UN Security Council, Soviet and Tzarist Russia debts to Olympic medals won by team USSR.

And it means you're COMPLETELY WRONG.

                              It's just a re-branding.

                              Is what you said.

It's not true because many of the countries who used to play for the USSR play for their own countries now. This is because USSR != Russia, and they are not the same thing. Why do I have to spell this out to you?

I clearly more know than you if you think Russia is simply a rebranding of the USSR...

We've won only broze this year ('cause we've been kicked out by ex-Malkin's team Metallurg in semi-finals, whom we crushed three years in a row when Malkin played, and who later won the entire championship). Cherepanov (nickname Cherepashka - turtle ) viewed by many as new Malkin or Ovechnkin and ranked as #1 among European junior players. So, remember this name.
I've heard the guy is good (top 3 to 5 in this draft) but I have my doubts about him being another Ovechkin.
