  • The crappy line. I don't know that Carr deserves your scorn.

While I also agree with Sloww on Carr, I have to agree that Johnson has been in an unfavorable climate. He's a top level talent at WR.

      • Drew Stanton is ****e. Yes, he has the physical tools. But he is very easily rattled; as soon as things get rough, he goes all pear-shaped. And things get rough a lot for Detroit QBs.

        • Yeah, they might as well not start a QB. Throw anther WR out there, they've got plenty...

Accurate but demonstrates poor judgment. An INT machine.

            • I also agree with Sloww on Carr. However, I'm from Fresno. I can see Carr starting again within a year, Delhomme is fading.

As a Niner fan I just want to voice that we finally look like a better team this year, and I haven't been able to say that for nearly a decade.

Good coaching can minimize that.. or at least make it better. I think Favre may have headed down a bad path if Holmgren didn't get a hold of him early in his career.

                • I don't know man. TD/INT at 1.2 as a senior is pretty bad for college football.

Quinn's was 5+, showing stellar judgment and more than making up for a little inaccuracy. Kolb's was 7.5, which is why I think he might end up as a gem in the NFL.

                  • Stanton = the new Rex

Japher, I think you could have said the 49ers were better last year They certainly played better... and were a lot closer to making the playoffs than they have been in ages.

The 49ers look a lot to me like the Bulls of two years ago ... a team that has finally finished rebuilding, and is now working its way up the ladder.

Hard to catch a ball when instead of the QB looking over the field, he's staring into the sky from his posterior.

While that is true, Stanton's senior year was his worst, due to a lack of talent around him (good players left school and were replaced by crap). He had a completion % of 66.7 in 2005 and 64.1 in 2004. Quinn's best two completion % years (64.9 and 61.9 in his Junior and Senior seasons respectively) are worse than Stanton's. And generally it is completion % that determines how well a QB will play at the next level (of course varied for strength of opposition, etc).

By comparison, Russell had poor completion % until his senior year, where he posted a very nice 67.8.

Kolb is from U Houston. Can anybody name a QB from Houston that has been a success in the NFL? I can't think of one.

After gathering and analyzing extensive data, I determined that games started and completion percentage in college were strong predictors of NFL success.

In fact, for first- and second-round quarterbacks these two variables explain roughly 65 percent of the variation in NFL performance. This is a remarkably high number given how much of an impact we believe that teammates have on a quarterback’s play. The system accurately predicted Philip Rivers’ breakout season, and the success or lack thereof, of many other young passers
