      The best one they've taken.

This is why the Detroit Lions... will always be the Detroit Lions.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

          GREAT PICK

The concern was that the Lions, being the Lions, would pass on CJ because of all the bad press they got for selecting WRs, but this year they actually DID need a WR and would let perception of others guide their pick.

This is the best draft pick Millen has made in his tenure, IMO (ok, not saying much).

It looks like Mike Martz won the behind the scene fight. It is rumored that he wanted CJ from the beginning. Though if he's traded, that's a different thing entirely.

I'm not saying he's not going to be a great player... but how can you say that the Lions need a WR. They have far more other needs that are far more dire than the WR postion.

I would not have chosen Joe Thomas with #3, but can't say that the pick is bad.

They are playing Martz's offense. That offense needs at least 3 good WRs (if not 4, really). And CJ is the consensus best player in the draft (and considered one of the best WRs to come out in at least a decade). If he turns into one of the all time greats, it may have been worth the risk.

Getting CJ will allow the Lions to move Furrey in the slot, with Roy Williams on the other side.

Mike Williams is probably tradebait at this time.

#3 Joe Thomas to Cleveland - a bit unexpected

Detroit could have traded the pick and helped the team more. Because CJ was the "best" player, he was worth a lot in trade.

Flat out. CJ was a bad pick. Nobody wants to trade for a #2 WR. The position doesn't command #2 money.

They can still trade the player, cause you know... they have him .

I guess I can see a San Diego/Eli Manning trade happening if the Lions get blown away. But I'd keep CJ if I was them... not saying I wouldn't listen to offers for him (I guess especially if a player they were targeting keeps falling). Some team may be completely nuts.

Gaines Adams... good pick by the Bucs. They need some defensive help on the ends.
