Why should he? The Yankee fans have been complete *******s to him. He probably feels he doesn't owe them anything. He'll put up MVP-like numbers, while the Yankees crash and burn and leave, laughing to another big contract.

dam another fight in the dug out. Zambrano and barret in the cubs dug out then again in the clubhouseWhen you find yourself arguing with an idiot, you might want to rethink who the idiot really is.

Except that Zambrano probably hates Pierzynski more as AJ is just about the most hated man in baseball.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Tough break (literaly, it turns out) for ManCaveItch. Good break, however, for the Yankees. It's harsh, but he's terrible. More playing time for Phelps
So the Yanks mustered a win last night off of Okajima and Papelbon. That's nice. Back spasms for Andy Pettitte - not so nice. Clemens' groin hurts... insert joke here, Sox fans.

Well, my hope for more playing time for Phelps already looks misplaced. He had a really bad game in Chicago, both defensively (known liability) and offensively (the part of the game he's supposed to be good at), and Torre starts Miguel Cairo at first the very next game. And then Cairo gets a couple of hits and turns a nice DP, which pretty much ensures I will have to endure more of him. He's a terrible hitter - worse than ManCaveItch. Sigh. At least they won last night.

Another game, another start for Miguel Cairo at 1B. At least this time it was somewhat defensible, because Wang was pitching. And he pitched a CG, so I'm a happy camper this morning.

Yay. The Pirates suck. The Yankees no longer suck, and thus swept them, as they should have. To .500, and beyond!
Az coming in. Tougher team. We face their ace, Webb, in the first game. Pretty cool, actually, as it's Webb v. Wang. The two pitchers with the most ridiculous ground ball ratios in baseball (the only other one who is in the running, IIRC, is D. Lowe).

About 40% of the way into the season, and the AL races are starting to take definite shape:
AL East:
Red Sox 41-22 .651 --
Yankees 31-31 .500 9.5
Unless we see an epic collapse for the ages, this is over.
AL Central:
Indians 37-26 .587 --
Tigers 37-26 .587 --
Twins 31-31 .500 5.5
I'm reminded of last season, when the Twins just hung around, hung around, hung around, and them WHAM! They win the division. Keep an eye on this.
AL West:
Angels 40-25 .615 --
Mariners 35-26 .574 3
Athletics 34-29 .540 5
Seattle looks like this year's surprise team. They're battling a couple teams with loads of experience, so this ought to be a fun race.
AL Wild Card:
Central #2 37-26 .587 -- (Tigers/Indians)
Mariners 35-26 .574 1
Athletics 34-29 .540 3
Twins 31-31 .500 5.5
Yankees 31-31 .500 5.5
A veritible viper's nest of playoff savvy teams, plus the out-of-nowhere Mariners, and the new Indians. I don't feel comfortable ruling out any of these teams.
The NL looks almost as exciting, if only by virtue of that crazy NL West race. The NL Central should be nuked."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I'd be shocked if the Mariners didn't fade. They're not a good team.
Agreed on the NL Central.

Well, that's a bit better. The Yanks are finally playing the way they should, and have closed the gap somewhat (8.5 behind Boston, 3.5 out of the WC).
Interesting development with Chien-Ming Wang. There is a noticeable uptick in his K rate. This is generally the big knock on him - that he can't continue to have success when he strikes out so few batters. I'm bummed I missed his last start (8.2 IP, 10ks, 2ER).
Boston still has a big lead. But like I said last week, it's a little early to be sticking a fork in the Yanks.

Detroit won a nailbiter in Washington. I almost got a home run too.
I'll be back at RFK tonight and tomorrow for the rest of the Tigers series.
