Great to get the victory, great that Kipper is on fire and great that the team played better after such a bad first period. BUt bad that they did get outplayed so badly in the first. You can't expect Mikka to turn away 38 shots and many good scoring chances. There were far too many mistakes by his d.

The Flames are starting to win the close ones and are giving up a lot fewer goals. I just wish that this didn't seem to slow their offensive production as well.

    • It's time for the Hockey News Player Poll!

I'll selectively quote my favorite parts:

To what city would you least like to be traded?
      1) Buffalo Sabres (40) 16%
      2) Edmonton Oilers (28) 11.2%

What is the toughest building to play in on the road?
      1) Detroit Red Wings (41) 16.4%
      2) Calgary Flames (37) 14.8%

Who is the best player in the NHL this season?
      ...
      10) Erik Cole, Pavel Datsyuk, Rory Fitzpatrick, Eric Goddard, Josh Green, Jarome Iginla, Mike Modano, Ryan Miller, Brian Rolston and Henrik Zetterberg (1) 0.38%

What’s the worst thing about your job?
      ...
      14) Protein shakes, watching video, late nights, filling out forms, fighting, autographs, missed childhood, girls, money, Cam Janssen, getting yelled at, pre-game skate, coaches and being booed (1) 0.4%

Same for the Leafs. Last three spots are still open.

Had a chance to watch a lot of games, or at least a good part of the games in the past two weeks.

Toronto and Montreal have played some exciting hockey, even if Toronto lost a couple of the games. From what I've seen, Montreal will take a playoff spot. As for the Leafs, it'll be a close call. Still for both teams, this is the way to go into the playoffs.

Vancouver looks ready to take the Cup. Luongo is in the zone. The Canucks forwards look like they're completely in sync with some beautiful pass, shoot and score.

What exactly is different of Vancouver this year compared to Calgary last year?

Their offensive output is par for the course, Calgary had better goaltending and defense to boot...

I don't find your hockey opinions that consistent...

                    • Columbus has a good coach and some players with potential. Edmonton doesn't, really.

                        And sinking.

Washington, LA, Chicago, and Phoenix stand a good chance of going ahead before this is all done.

The only ones with a lock on being worse are Philly.

Hemsky should sit the rest of the year with his shoulder, and Rolie shouldn't play too many games. However, they beat the Avs. Now they have to get in shape to play the Flames and drag them down to oblivion.

Why does it matter? I don't think Edmonton can draft players that can stay on the puck if their team depended on it (which it does, ironically).

Hemsky is fragile and overrated, for instance. Touch him and he crumples into the fetal position along the boards then sits out two months to play video games.
