  • What's laughable is thinking the Flames would be OK with their top 3 forwards hurt or traded, the best of the 3rd and 4th lines also out, and with 3 rookies on D (1 a junior) and a max of 5 D dressed.

You think Lombardi is a top 3 forward?

Take a look at the Flames farm team and the quality of the callups. Calgary has 2 NHL-calibre d-men as a scratch every single game, I mean.

Your situation is ridiculous because it's only a situation that terrible teams get in with terrible management. They brought it on themselves.

Even WITHOUT the injuries, the Oilers sucked this yea.r Don't forget that. The Oilers that were lucky enough to get out of Edmonton blossomed, which says a ton about the calibre of that team.

PS: How many rookies does SJ have on D? Rookies aren't bad if you've got depth and a quality farm team with a similar system. Calgary and SJ have that, Edmonton does not. Deal with it. You can cry all you want about how unlucky you guys are and your stupid "I'd like to see you do better" comments. The reason the Oilers are where they are is inept management from top to bottom, and overrated players.

Ales Hemsky comes to mind. Shawn Horcoff comes to mind. Jarret Stoll comes to mind. Fernando Pisani comes to mind. Joffrey Lupul comes to mind. Man, most of the Oilers are overrated and overpaid. The team is ****ed for years to come, and Lowe still has a job...

      • All the call ups got hurt too, jeenius. There is a reason people are saying they've never seen anything like it.

And I seem to recall the Oilers being in the mix until the Stoll-Hemsky-Smyth injuries started piling on top of the Staios, Moreau injuries. Then the roof caved in and all the callups ended up injured as well until at last a junior was being called up.

        Deal with it, indeed.

        • err

I just came back from the nashville game and what an awesome game. THe place had a playoff atmosphere and the Flames were full value for the win. Without Chris Mason the Flames could have won by a couple.

Two very good efforts in a row. Assuming Colorado veats Edmonton, the margin remains at four . Now Calgary need to show that this type of good effort can be brought on the road-- They broke the Nashville jinx tonight (8 in a row IIRC)-- now its time to go and be very good on the road

That was huge for the Flames. If they still manage to blow it I'd be surprised.

                Well gee, I wonder why?

There's no tough guy on the entire team. The Oilers are a bunch of pushovers, physically. All of the callups come from different teams and different systems so they're not in the right places where they should be on the ice, resulting in awful performances and more injuries from the surrounding confusion on the ice.

If you want to blame the Oilers' worst season in franchise history on luck, you're more than welcome to, but you've got to realize it's not luck that screwed you over. It started when Pronger left, and K-Lowe made awful trades since then. You never had a real team to start, so blaming callups is ridiculous.

There is a reason people are saying they've never seen anything like it.
I will agree the incompetence of the management has hit record levels.

You recall very, very wrong...very wrong...

Not much else to say about that. The Oilers had problems from the start. Break it down by quarters, you've been outscored in every period of time you look at throughout the season.

You're the one blaming Edmonton's woes on bad luck. Did you ever seriously watch the Oilers this year without their blinders?

                  Let's go over the basics:
                  1) Over-the-hill goaltending by a guy who can't handle the load
                  2) Awful coaching from MacT from start to finish (check out MAB in New York for an example of how he drains performance out of players)
                  3) No defense to speak of, from the beginning.
                  4) Lack of leadership in the lockerroom (Jason Smith? Come on...)
                  5) A bunch of kids on new long-term "loyalty" contracts like Pisani, Horcoff, etc who didn't need to perform to earn their pay -- and didn't perform.
                  6) Dependence on explosive offensive power that would never come because your puck is always stuck in your defensive zone due to poor defensemen, combined with factor 5 above...very few goals scored.

                  Bad luck? No, bad team.

                    Blaming callups? No.

Thinking that the decimated roster has something to do with recent performances? Yes.

Players playing hurt. Players losing 15 pounds to the flu, but missing 1 game. Yes.

                    This is not blaming callups.

You recall very, very wrong...very wrong...
Actually, the Oil were in the top 8 when Smyth and Hemsky hit the tip of the injury iceburg in November. But anyways...

Not much else to say about that. The Oilers had problems from the start. Break it down by quarters, you've been outscored in every period of time you look at throughout the season.
Really? After 20 games. 59 GF, 54 GA. Won the next 2 games with a combined 7-2 score.

3 games after that Hemsky is out. 5 games later Smyth is out. Staios's knee went the same time Hemsky got hurt. Things went to hell and the Oilers never recovered.

                    • Now, of course the Oilers have problems. The very young defence. The players scattered in the minors. The forwards not getting the puck and the offence stalled as a result.

However, expecting any team to play through having a junior on defence, and only dressing 5, as well as the top 3 forwards hurt or gone, as well as 2 of the best 3rd and 4th liners also hurt... you're seriously deluded.

Yeah, I guess you're right. If there's one thing the 06-07 Oilers are noted for, it's for being tough -- both from being resilient to injury and for standing up to the other teams knocking you around physically...

Thinking that the decimated roster has something to do with recent performances? Yes.

Something to do? Yes. Excuse? No.

Again, Calgary at one point had 7 players out, including Iginla, and still won games. 12 losses in a row is more than a weak current roster...

Actually, the Oil were in the top 8 when Smyth and Hemsky hit the tip of the injury iceburg in November. But anyways...
Largely because of slow starts from other teams, like Calgary.

Really? After 20 games. 59 GF, 54 GA.
Those are championship numbers right there...

Again, you act like this was out of the Oilers hands.

That's what's deluded. You blame your lack of experienced defencemen, then you virtually give away MAB. You blame your lack of forwards, then you give away Ryan Smyth.

The reason the Oilers are where they are is because the team sucks from top to bottom in the organization. Sleazy ownership in the Edmonton Investment Group, sleazy GM work from K-Lowe, and awful coaching from MacT. That's the underlying problem, you're not looking hard enough at the problem. You're just looking at the results of the problem.
