  • Oakland and Minny are the only teams left without a #1 Qb, and Minnesota coach Brad Childress denied interest and dissed Carr's 3/4 delivery.

      • But now, back to the Lance Briggs saga. Anyone who doubts that this is all being controlled by "superagent" Drew Rosenhaus should check this out...

Briggs barks up the wrong tree

By John Mullin, ChicagoTribune staff reporter
        March 23, 2007

Linebacker Lance Briggs' verbal assault on the Bears moved to another venue Thursday, but it didn't generate the feedback he probably expected.

At the same time, the teams that agent Drew Rosenhaus has said have interest in trading for Briggs have contradicted him directly.

Briggs and Rosenhaus continue to speak only to national electronic media, so Briggs' only comment to a Chicago reporter Thursday was "no comment."

On Thursday his platform was "NFL Total Access" on the NFL Network. Co-host Rod Woodson, a likely Hall of Fame defensive back, took issue with Briggs' threat to sit out all season unless the Bears meet his demands to trade him or lift the franchise tag (and its $7.2 million guaranteed salary) they placed on him.

Woodson reminded Briggs where the league and players have come financially in recent years and said:, "I would tell you to go out there, `ball' out, don't really think about sitting out for the whole year. You have the money. The corporation you're representing is Lance Briggs Inc. Go out there, do your thing, and if they want to franchise you again next year, they have to [increase it 20] percent."

Rosenhaus said on a cable-TV show this week that San Francisco, Seattle and Washington had expressed interest in trading for Briggs. Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato has indicated there was "no merit" to that statement. Seahawks President Tim Ruskell told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, "There is no truth to that whatsoever."

Briggs acknowledged the importance of middle linebacker Brian Urlacher but reiterated: "I don't fit in the plans for Chicago next year, and they've already poisoned it. They can't pay [Urlacher and me]; they can't pay us both. My position is, well, then I have to go."

To complete the trifecta, the 49ers today also announced that Rosenhaus' story is a fabrication. "It's the same as what the Seahawks said," according to team spokesperson Aaron Salkin, who also notes that Drew is trying to negotiate an extension for Frank Gore. The asking price? Making Gore the highest-paid player in the NFL.

I know Rosenhaus has made a lot of money for his clients, but he's really getting out of control. If Rosenhaus and Briggs really think the Bears are going to cave when they have Briggs under contractual control for two more years, Lance will wind up missing two years of prime production, $15MM+ in cash, and be a free agent who hasn't played a down in two years.

At this point, I hope the Bears stick to their guns.

        • Wow... Carr was outright released... guess no one wanted to give any draft picks for that deal. He could start for Miami, that's true (depending on how bad Culpepper is laid up). Though it'd be funny to see Carr become the backup in Atlanta, taking Schaub's old place (even though I heard the Falcons picked up Chris Redman, former UL QB, for that potential role) .

Though this MAY be the opening Oakland needs to take Calvin Johnson with the #1 pick.

Eww. No, thanks. Carr hasn't shown to be any better than Grossman, in substantially more games...

                  • Trent Green is old. Are you looking for a season?
Keep the hounds off Carr and he'll give you more than that.

Where Houston screwed up was not keeping Carr there and seeing the competition.

That's because Carr had 3 or 4 defensive limemen in his face every passing down (sometimes I thought EVERY passing down screen!). Grossman can get rattled with one.

You give Carr the kind of protection Grossman gets, he'll put up Manning type of numbers.

But Carr with more protection is probably a better bet than Grossman.

I'm not saying he'd be better, or even on par with him; just that he'd put up great numbers... similar to what Brees did this year. Great numbers (I think they were even better than Manning), but not anywhere near as good a QB.
