Umm... no thanks. I'd rather have Rex...

          • It's kind of interesting. With Schaub being handed the starting job in Houston, there are now more starting QBs available than teams in need of one. Really, only Oakland and Minnesota lack starters. OK, add Cleveland if you want. Miami is also said to be in the mix, and is considering dropping Daunte Culpepper.

Available: JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn (draft); David Carr, Trent Green, The Three Buccaneers, Joey Harrington... Plus experienced retreads like Drew Bledsoe, Kerry Collins et al. That means some of these guys will be backups.

David Carr would be a great addition to the Bears. Therefore, it won't happen. Trent Green is a fumbler without a great arm. Of course, I may be biased, since his injury really screwed one of my fantasy teams last year...

            • Profootballtalk.com reports that Joe Theisman is out as ESPN's Monday Night Football analyst. Bill Parcells was reportedly offered the job, but didn't take it. Ron Jaworski is reportedly the favorite to earn the gig alongside Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser.

This news is so enjoyable it probably isn't true.

                • I think it speaks volumes when Bear fans, like the Snoopmeister, say, "No. Grossman is fine. Screw it. This is better than it's been. We'll deal with it."

                  • Where did I say I wanted to keep Rex? I just said I like him better than Carr, who's had 5 years to prove himself and done nothing.

To me, they're both people who have theoretical potential but haven't done anything with that yet. Both have adversity (injury, Oline problems respectively), but both had a chance to shine and, well, didn't. However, Rex has only had one year in which to do so, and had some brilliance amidst some not so brilliant, and Carr has had a lot more time and hasn't shown much brilliance at all.

I would note that, for all the oline problems Carr has had, he's somehow managed to be alongside some decent RB numbers, who usually are dependent on the OL. Carr is potentially the same as some other QBs whose sacks come from holding on to the ball too long (Warner IIRC was one) rather than from solely OL problems.

Thus, I would rather have Rex, for at least another year, compared to Carr.

But I'd rather have Green (or Leftwich or even perhaps Culpepper), someone who could help win NOW instead of in a year or three

                    • Snoop... you just about bottemed out there with that Culpepper statement.

Maybe the Bears should hire you as their QB consultant. Quinn, Stewart, Moreno, et al. You'd be par for the course!

                        • Well, culpepper would be a shot in the dark I admit But if you added him to Rex and Griese, what's the harm? He still has a lot of upside if he can figure out what's broken, and if he doesn't get that upside, we still aren't any worse off than we are now...

                            • Manning gets laughs as host of 'SNL'

Sun Mar 25, 7:52 AM ET

                              NEW YORK -
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning used his "Saturday Night Live" monologue to poke a little fun at his mother.

With his immediate family in the audience, the Super Bowl MVP introduced his father, Archie, who was a star NFL quarterback for 14 years, saying "he taught me everything I know."

He then introduced his brother, Eli — the
New York Giants starting quarterback — before asking his mother, Olivia, to stand up during the live television broadcast on NBC.

"She never made it to the NFL," Manning said, feigning disgust. "Didn't have what it took. Got cut by the Dolphins, tried Canada for a bit. She's a real disappointment for all of us."

The cameras then switched to the Manning clan sitting in their seats, laughing.

Following Manning's monologue, the scene switched to a filmed segment in which Manning is shown coaching a group of children.

But unlike his straight-laced image, the segment depicts Manning making fun of the children as they make mistakes, screaming at a boy at one point, "I can't even look at you!"

Manning later demonstrates to the kids how to break into a car and arranges for one boy to have his leg tattooed.

Before Saturday's show, Manning said he was a bit nervous about hosting and appearing in comedy routines on live television. But sports figures have long been a staple of "Saturday Night Live."

Manning said he's been a fan of the show and remembers seeing
New York Yankees star Derek Jeter dress up as a woman, and former NBA star Michael Jordan reminding himself that he was good enough and that people liked him.
