A great hockey player is not a fancy, pushover player who falls on his ass constantly giving the opponents odd-man breaks. I don't care how much he scores if he can't be defensively responsible.
+/- is an important stat for this reason. Perhaps if the Oilers cared more about +/- they could be a real team, but as it stands now their defense is a joke and it's clear to see what kind of philosophy made that happen.
