[Q=Kuciwalker;5721758] If you say "well that proves the math is wrong", all you're doing is reaffirming the statement "relativity, causality, FTL: pick two".[/Q] Yes, that is what I'm saying. If FTL is possible, it is because our model of relativity is wrong. That's what I've been saying all along. Whenever reality and math conflict, it is the math that is wrong. Math is not reality. The mathematics assumes you can't go faster than c (the 1-v²/c² term dictates that), and if that isn't true, then the math is wrong.
You cannot correctly analyze an FTL problem with relativity, just as you can't correctly analyze a relativity problem with Newtonian physics. You have to create a superset that is valid for Einsteinian physics below c, and valid for ansible physics (or whatever it might be called) above c.
For example, if FTL is some kind of tunneling phenomenon, then the object isn't necessarily in measurable motion with respect to any reference frame.(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

No, dufus. It's because either relativity is wrong (extraordinarily unlikely, given the enormous mass of experimental evidence in support of it) or causality is wrong (also unlikely).
And the fact is the simplest explanation for this thread is 1) you don't understand special relativity and 2) you are too stubbornly stupid to admit it. The alternate explanation, that you actually understood this issue and were only disputing the obvious math (as in, the math the professor should show on the FIRST DAY of a unit on special relativity) because you wanted us to guess at your philosophical position that causality is inviolable gets cut by Occam's razor.

What a ****ing idiot. "You can't do FTL with relativity". Like it's some sort of magic rule that only he's discovered. You CAN do it if you're willing to accept that causality is violated. And EVEN IF you claim that it's SR which breaks down somehow (how this happens is itself not obvious, as none of the lorentz transforms you do are FTL) you STILL NEED TO EXPLAIN why the Galilean transforms suddenly become right again, despite the fact that we can observe MASSIVE deviations from Galilean transforms in REAL EXPERIMENTS.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Here's what violates causality:
1) That the SR transforms are valid for frames moving relative to each other at less than c (true as far as we can tell)
2) That A and B can communicate with each other via FTL as long as they're moving at the same velocity
with these two in hand we can ALWAYS construct some set of spaceships/trains/whatever which takes the signal from A back to A before A sends it12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

We DON'T EVEN NEED TO DO SR on the legs which are FTL. On those legs we can just "do the math" according to Tardbow's method. The setup I described to TCO has:
A to B FTL, A and B at rest relative to each other
B to C via regular radio, C moving relative to B
C to D FTL, C and D at rest relative to each other
D to A via regular radio, D moving relative to A12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

The chances of you having anything worthwhile to say are nil, BK. I'm not clicking on your message. You don't even understand the coordinate singularity in a simple Schwarzchild metric.
All I asked is where he said that the Galilean transformations were more accurate, I don't see him saying anything of that sort.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
