  • You could sterilize more poor people. Then there'd be less of the icky things running around.
Unfortunately there are these annoying things called 'human rights', that get in the way of sound policy.

    • Calling it unconsciousness doesn't make it so. Unconsciousness is a reduced mental state, not a complete lack of any mental activity whatsoever.
Whatever you prefer to call the state, it is temporary. That is the main point. The capacity for consciousness exists.

Er, they are. The rate of teen pregnancies in the United States has been declining since the early 90s.

As for the rapists, I agree, but I thought that was called prison...
No, because prison is involuntary and costs lots of money. Rapists should be given the option of exile or brainwashing.

You are kinder than I. You make a good point about prison though. We are spending money on those inmates that could be better spent elsewhere.

You don't have to pay to exile them to a desert isle, other than the fee to ship them out in the first place.

They don't take abortions into consideration with that statistic. We would expect the rate of teen pregnancies to go down as there are fewer teenagers.

Erg, is this the first debate we've ever had? You're damn straight I'm an extremist. However, this hypothetical civilization where rapists get brainwashed or exiled would also be one in which citizenship was completely voluntary, and those that don't like the rules would be free to leave at any time.

                      • From one of you own bible sites.

Teens are one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. population. Between 1990 and 2000, teens grew at the rate of 16.6% to reach an estimated 32 million. It is projected that teens will grow at an estimated cumulative growth rate of 6.8% and will reach 34.6 million by 2006. Teens, typically defined as those ages 12-19, can be segmented into 3 categories:

Umm, ok, you are taking it from there rather than the census? Seriously?

In Census 2000, 281.4 million people were counted in the United States, a 13.2 percent increase from the 1990 census population of 248.7 million.
                          13 279 668 million 14-17 1990
                          16 092 668 million 14-17 2000
Which is a growth rate of 12.3 percent, less than the overall population growth.

                          • It was the first site to pop, and I thought the a bible site was a nice touch for this thread.

Why is this bible site incorrect.

                              I'd be quoting CDC.

Depends on the chart. As a percentage of total pregnancies, yes it would go down.

Anyways, I await your source for your observation that teen pregnancies have indeed gone down between 1990 to 2000.

So there are more teenagers than before, in contradiction to your earlier statement.
