      • My ancestors were legals. Know that place in New York City where boats dock and immigrants file in line to fill out paperwork. Ellis Island. Ever heard of it? Yea, my mother's family went through there, legally and documented. (father's side>) My great uncle, several times over, got off the boat and signed the billet of the Union Army and was sent straight into the Civil War. His brother, my great several times over grand father had lost a leg *or something like that* in Ireland before getting to the US and couldn't serve.

Under current law, you mean to say, all our ancestors would be illegal? When they did the paperwork, paid the fees, paid to boat themselves over, registered to vote, served in the armed forces, or any number of other things? I find that hard to believe. I have served with a few Hispanics who were serving to gain citizenship, none from Mexico though. The Mexican's I served with, most were the worst soldiers ever. (Not to confuse the American born Mexican heritage with the Mexican born soldiers)

I love words being put in my mouth, like how I at some point referred to myself as master of the Constitution because of my service. Someone wanna post my quote on when I said that?

          • KH, lets have it. What did I say this time that merits extreme scrutiny? What have I said that privileges you to bash me again? Want to cut down my family history? Take hits at the questions I am asking others and has nothing to do with you? Or would you like to argue that my family never immigrated to America, that they magically appeared one day on the streets of Manhattan?

Hell yes. HELL YES! You think you can keep him down? NO! He wasn't trained that way. I wasn't trained that way, either! Hell no. HELL NO!

You question me? You question whether I'm really a black comedian from the 1970s? F*ck you. F*CK YOU!!! When you've put on a 3-piece suit and eaten bad banquet food for your country, then you can question me. Not good enough? How about proof? How about proof Mr. PhD? Huh? Proof like this:

HELL YES! So don't you be questioning my status as a black comedian from the 1970s. John Amos, Estelle Rolle -- I've taken their punches, and they've taken mine. And now Estelle's dead.

So f*ck you, and f*ck your 3rd amendment. I'll sleep where I goddamn please.

Yes, because under today's laws only a tiny fraction of those would have been eligible to enter.

                    a) Laughing at you isn't some special privilege. It's a right that myself and others have been enjoying greatly

                    b) If you want us to stop laughing at you I suggest that you simply admit that you were wrong; that you have hardly any understanding of what the constitution actually says; that the proposed law you were championing a couple of days ago is blatantly unconstitutional and will be struck down (rightfully) by the courts if and when it is ever put to a judicial test

                    c) In addition, you might want to start thinking instead of boring us with your oral family history. The point being made was that current restrictions against immigration to the US are far more stringent today than those which were applied against immigrants to the US throughout history. You seem to be inordinately proud that your ancestors immigrated legally, but if they were like most immigrants of the time to the US then the chances of them being allowed to immigrate today under similar circumstances would be slim to none. Poor Mexicans are being denied the chance that was given to poor Irishmen a hundred and twenty five years ago.

                    d) Finally, I'm interested in knowing how, exactly, serving in the US military as a foreigner helps somebody become a US citizen. The biggest hurdle to gaining US citizenship is gaining lawful permanent residency (a green card). In order to join the US military, somebody must ALREADY have lawful permanent residency. If they want to naturalize at that point then all they have to do is to live for 5 years in the US. A term of enlistment accelerates this last step, but that seems like a poor reason to join the military. In fact, I suspect that you have little or no knowledge of what immigration to the US actually entails in this day and age. Unlike in previous times it is NOT as easy as showing up on a boat, filling out a form and paying a processing fee. Most illegal immigrants would find it impossible to gain lawful permanent residency to the US. Only relatives of US citizens and highly skilled applicants (for example, education BEYOND a bachelor's degree) have a good chance of immigrating. This may or may not be a justification to break the law as far as you are concerned. If you disagree with it as a justification then please feel free to say so. Do not simply post some boring-ass story about your gimpy great great grandfather on Ellis island.

                    • So the question remains, why is it we currently allow millions of illegals to remain in the country without even attempting to file? Why is it so many seem to fight to let them stay, let them leech off our tax dollars, so on and so forth?

Oh yea, why do I care what happens in my country when I am working in China? Because I am, always have been and always will be, an American.

                          • Poor Mexicans are being denied the chance that was given to poor Irishmen a hundred and twenty five years ago.---Poor Mexicans, oh I have such sympathy for them. They go around doing their own thing, when "125" years ago Irish was a step above being black. What are you expecting of me, to roll over and play your game? You want me to sympathize or agree with you you had should use softer tactics. Insulting my lineage does you no good, and your deeming my knowledge of family history and my heritage as stupid just doesn't work.

See Mexicans get here and get to do all sorts of cheap labor and get all sorts of benefits. Irish got here, legally, and weren't able to get work because they were discriminated against. Remember how blacks couldn't use some places or things, etc. Irish had the same **** end of the stick.

One of the great things about the military is that service can get you citizenship. I was born a citizen, I didn't have to go through the process. I had a few colleagues and one of my soldiers who went through it. My 1st Sergeant of my last unit was born in Venezuela and served in their military for a few years, taught himself English and then immigrated legally to the US. Upon getting to the US he signed up for the US Army as a cavalry scout. He got his citizenship the same way other soldiers do, they file the paperwork. You want exacts go look it up, all I know is that serving helped there papers along. I never asked questions of soldiers from other countries serving along side me. All I knew is that they were serving a military of a country they were not born in, that they honestly believe in, and that they obviously were willing to die for citizenship.

Why do you constantly question everything military I say? Are you that dead set against military, soldiers, and veterans? Did you get denied when you went to MEPs? Maybe too much meth as a kid? Or just a retardation that keeps you from accepting the world as open minded as opposed to your secluded one view world?

You might not have used words like "master of the Constitution," but can you seriously tell me with a straight face that quotes like those below don't seem to imply that your being a combat veteran somehow gives you a superior perspective on Constitutional rights and powers than any "bureaucrat" with equal access to the same text, or even lawyers who have spent years being specifically trained and tested on the topic? If you seriously didn't mean to imply any such thing, your words nonetheless did. Sorry.

You want to know why I have some of the beliefs I do? I spent a year in the hot zone being shot up, blown up, and mortared. All the while some bureaucrat sat in a cushy desk chair dictating how I would fight the war. I studied the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and all sorts of other government documents in my free time so don't try to question my resolve. Take a look at your own, and why you lean the way you do.

Military service can get you citizenship ONCE YOU HAVE LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENCY. Do you know what else can get you citizenship once you have legal permanent residency? Living in the US for 5 years, then taking some joke citizenship test which even you might have a chance of passing. Getting legal permanent residency is the difficult step, not getting citizenship.
