  • Slowwhand is very sick

Slowwhand is currently in the hospital receiving dialysis treatment. He has stage 5 kidney disease. This is to prepare him to receive open heart surgery if the dialysis treatment is successful.

We are hoping that he’ll gain some strength and get through each step. We are asking for prayers please.

That sounds arduous. I'll be thinking about him.

I'm slightly confused, why heart surgery for bad kidneys? Hope he gets better.

Very sad news; thought he was doing better.

Wishing you all the best, David!

My mother was on dialysis for three years until she died. Prayers for Sloww.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I had an excellent cardiac surgeon when I died 13 years ago. Hopefully, Sloww has a good one too. And hopefully he has a way to pay for care.

It's very possible he has both kidney problems and heart disease. I've seen that combination many times. I'd imagine he needs the dialysis first to be strong enough for the surgery; very unpleasant things happen when your kidneys don't work, and few CT surgeons would risk open-heart on a patient with fluid overload on a non-emergent basis. Recovery from heart surgery is tough. That said, heart surgery has really advanced in the past few decades, and at my hospital at least it is managed with utterly fanatical dedication by specially trained nurses who think of themselves like the medical marine corps, so it seems likely that Sloww will be in good hands once he gets through the dialysis.

I'll pray for the old grump too. Keep us posted, BK.

Thanks for replying to giblets. Yes, this is exactly it. He's been under treatment for his kidneys for awhile now. He went into emergency about a week ago and they diagnosed his heart condition.

His family has been in touch with me, I will try to keep Poly updated here.

Please keep him in your thoughts.
