As for "common sense", I don't know if a child who has been consistently claiming for years they have the wrong sexual characteristics can really be handled using conventional wisdom.

1. Non-paywalled sources on this tend to be conservative, and I presume you would just roll your eyes and say it's a Nazi rag and can't be believed. There are ways to get around the paywall, if you like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johanna_Olson-Kennedy was the researcher and her Wiki article alludes to the story. The Wiki page quotes her as saying no improvement was seen because the kids studied were in such great shape already; the NY Post quotes the NYT as objecting to this because a quarter of the kids initially reported being depressed or suicidal. It's complicated, natch.
2. I posted a whole bunch of common-sense objections to standard trans talking points in the same post with those two links. Thus far the only response has been Nestor tone-policing. The core of the problem is the lack of a clear line between trans research (which should aspire to objectivity) and trans advocacy (which can't and shouldn't). The charge from the right, which appears (to me) to be at least as much right as wrong, is that the latter has simply devoured the former and overwhelmingly progressive researchers are reduced to selectively cheerleading for whatever progressive orthodoxy happens to want at the moment. Conservatives have no place in the social sciences and there's nobody left to keep them honest.

I'm also confused about your comment. Your "clarifying" just made my confusion clearer.

Are you referring to puberty blockers as "powerful prescription drugs that cause irreversible physical changes"?

Also, any evidence that 'mutilating surgery' is performed on children at any scale? I could find some evidence of surgery on minors (teens, not children), although it has been mostly breast removal. While looking for info, I also found out that there were significantly more breast enhancement surgeries for non-gender-care reasons (and a huge boatload of rhinoplasties) performed on minors.

I also find it very curious (read: no I don't) that all these worries about "permanently mutilating children" never seem to care about circumcision.
