The core of the problem is the lack of a clear line between trans research (which should aspire to objectivity) and trans advocacy (which can't and shouldn't). The charge from the right, which appears (to me) to be at least as much right as wrong, is that the latter has simply devoured the former and overwhelmingly progressive researchers are reduced to selectively cheerleading for whatever progressive orthodoxy happens to want at the moment. Conservatives have no place in the social sciences and there's nobody left to keep them honest.
