Do the AI designers attest that the images are new and original but leave the explanation of why that is the case to black box proprietary processes? I find it hard to tell just how original these AI originals are.

I was shocked myself, but the are original!
The AI draws them, nobody else (while basing his knowledge about the subject of the drawing on analysis of billions pictures from the Net).
But, it is still it is own drawings.
