Nimitz did take advantage of a broken code...just as he did with many other tools that were available to him. The fact that he properly utilized said tool is actually a point in his favor. Far from making the strategic mistakes that Yamamato made, Nimitz demonstrated strategic brilliance with the concept of island hopping. Before that, the plan was to assualt the Japanese garrisons one at a time in a bloody slugfest across the Pacific. Not only did Nimitz save countless lives, he actually hastened the end of the war. To make all of that possible? Nimitz also practically invented replenishment at sea as a workable concept. This kept the fleet, marines, and soldiers moving forward instead of having to constantly return to base for replenishment. This also shortened the war. Hands down, Nimitz was brilliant both tactically and strategically.
Mannerhiem was also a brilliant tactician. He literally saved his nation both during the war and after it. His biggest drawback is that he had to lay down with Nazi's to do it.
Nimitz > Mannerhiem no matter how you cut it as a war leader however. This really should be an easy choice."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003
