do you have a source that supports that level of ABM effectiveness or are you just making assumptions based on the fact that the new ABM interceptors are faster than the older ICBMs?
Interesting twitter thread by former russian state secretary Kozyrew,
about the motives for Putin, why they are (in Putins world view) logical ...
and why Putins sabre ratting with nuclear weapons is just for show

His third point pro a rational Putin about the West is the most puzzling to me in all of this (if we assume that is what Putin and his underlings thought).
Yes, there is the Afghanistan withdrawal, and there was a rather weak response to Vlad over years.
But from there to completely misjudging the capabilities and the political will in Ukraine and the West is a long journey.
Afghanistan may have looked bad, but it did not fundamentally change the military or economic potential of the US/Europe/Allies. And outright agression in Europe rather helped political determination of the US/Europe/Allies.
If it's just a complete miscalculation Putin may still be rational, just wrong. Otherwise he could indeed live in a fantasy-land
I really don't think Putin expected the Ukrainians to fight.

You call a capitulation within a three weeks a fight?
You were going to crush them in 3 days. Remember?

Your puppet lacky Nazi Ukraine was doing excatly that for an eight years, but you didn't care!
Putin's justification to meddle in the Donbas was - in his view - the protection of ethnic Russians there. That's remarkably similar to the German position and course of action in the late 1930ies, for example to steal the Sudetenland in 1938.
The only exception is that Germans in Czechoslovakia didn't fight for their freedom, there was no civil war and none of them have been systimatecally bombed for an eight years.
