This has had an impact on me. As a writer, I'm on the side of free distribution. Butts in the seats ultimately is what drives the industry. Australia doesn't have many distribution channels into the US, so Australian media is very insular. This is just going to reinforce the walled garden approach and decrease the profitability of these firms long term. It's unlikely they will survive without subsidization.

The other thing is that it very much entrenches the larger media conglomerates at the expense of the smaller guerrilla publications. These publications get an enormous amount of reach via Facebook that's not available to them via traditional marketing methods.

Thankfully, I'm still getting accepted, but now I have to publish articles off my Facebook account rather than through the distribution channel of my publisher.

Most of the advertising revenue goes to Facebook and Google who contribute nothing to informing society.

Most of the publications don't really report much but copy Reuters or AP. Hence their obsolescence. Other smaller publications are doing well in finding audiences for Australian media outside of Australia. I'm good friends with a couple of quite prolific Australian authors.

This is something I try to understand.
There is a girl I like but I think she has no account on facebook.
It's very intriguing.

She has awesome music taste, is my right shade of beauty and I think I will have a hard time with her but I can't find anything of her online.

I should just ask her out for a walk which is the most you can do in this quarantine
