APR 16, 2019How Joseph Stalin Starved Millions in the Ukrainian Famine

At the height of the 1932-33 Ukrainian famine under Joseph Stalin, starving people roamed the countryside, desperate for something, anything to eat. In the village of Stavyshche, a young peasant boy watched as the wanderers dug into empty gardens with their bare hands. Many were so emaciated, he recalled, that their bodies began to swell and stink from the extreme lack of nutrients.

"You could see them walking about, just walking and walking, and one would drop, and then another, and so on it went," hesaid many years later, in a case history collected in the late 1980s by a Congressional commission. In the cemetery outside the village hospital, overwhelmed doctors carried the bodies on stretchers and tossed them into an enormous pit.
    The Holodomor's Death Toll

The Ukrainian famine—known as the Holodomor, a combination of the Ukrainian words for “starvation” and “to inflict death”—by one estimate claimed the lives of 3.9 million people, about 13 percent of the population. And, unlike other famines in history caused by blight or drought, this was caused when a dictator wanted both to replace Ukraine’s small farms with state-run collectives and punish independence-minded Ukrainians who posed a threat to his totalitarian authority.

“The Ukrainian famine was a clear case of a man-made famine,” explains Alex de Waal, executive director of the World Peace Foundation at Tufts University and author of the 2018 book, Mass Starvation: The History and Future of Famine. He describes it as “a hybrid…of a famine caused by calamitous social-economic policies and one aimed at a particular population for repression or punishment.”"

    • Kid, I don't want to waste my time on you, telling you obvious facts like that photos used as a proof of Holodomor were actually photos of AMERICAN farmers during the great depression of the same period.

I am f*cking tired fighting with historical myths, created during the Cold war to demonize the USSR.

Yes, there was a famine in Ukraine in early 30's ((like many times before in Tzarist Russia), the same famine that took lives in Russia and Kazakhstan, not only in Ukraine. But the Soviet Government did all they can do to stop it be it Ukraine, Kazakhstan or Povolzhie region of Russia. The famine in Eastern Poland in 1931-1932 (which was a Western Ukraine and Belorussia Poland took from Soviets after 1920-1921 years war) was the major sourse of the so-called proofs for soviet atrocities. But once again - THAT WAS A FAMINE in f*cking POLAND, who had grabbed parts of USSR (the one which USSR had returned in 1939), not in USSR!

Your f*ckiung whole story of the INTENTIONAL genocide is nothing more than a Hitler's propaganda myth later blown-up out of proportion by the West during the Cold war to demonize the Soviet Union.

Read at least this one single book, based on historical facts and documents, before we talk about the subject instead of repeating a cheap and f*cking stupid as hell propaganda bullsh!t:

        • I may hate your country (for a reason, actually, because it declared war on mine), but that doesn't mean I hate regular people of it.

            • In 1988 they had an international inquiry into the famine that found....

              "
              • The responsibility of the famine was placed on the central government of the USSR which the commission concluded various Soviet authorities "carried out those measures that for 10 months occasioned a dire shortage of foodstuffs in Ukraine."[10]
              • The Commission stressed that "the policies applied to the Ukrainian people and led to the famine of 1932–33 disregard the precepts of basic morality which are binding on Soviet as on all authorities, and that the Soviet authorities must in consequence be vigorously condemned."[11]
              • A majority of the commission does not believe that the 1932–1933 famine was systematically organized to crush the Ukrainian nation once and for all. However, they concluded that Soviet authorities used the famine voluntarily, when it happened, "to crown they [sic] new policy of denationalization." [12]
              • The commission majority was unable to affirm the existence of a preconceived plan to organize a famine in Ukraine, in order to ensure the success of Moscow’s policy. However, the commission majority did conclude that Soviet authorities, without actively wanting the famine, most likely took advantage of it to force peasants to accept policies they strongly opposed.[12]"

You Tuttle was invited but didn't attend to defend his work.

Wikipedia is communist so what's your point?

Do you think I'm going to believe a Stalinist or an international tribunal that gathered evidence?

My point is that you are just a product of your system and take any lies they feed you for granted, instead of reading an actual historical research on the subject.

                      • Well people say that they knew that collectivism causes food shortages. That's why they made Stalin leader, because he didn't care. They didn't want to be the leader that starved people to death.

But I will read that book to get the other side.

I call it murder. They starved people. That's a fact. You're showing how brainwashed you are. Only a brainwashed person would promote collectivization in the context of collectivization causing mass starvation.

                              • Perhaps you should read something except Wiki, as you have intended, before discussing the subject.

There was no intentional starving in Ukraine - that is f*cking myth!

Turn on your f*cking brain for once and ask yourself - is there any reason for a government to intentionally kill a part of population of their own country.

There is none. But you eat that Holodomor bullsh!t for decades, just like you eat bullsh!t about the Russian hackers or Novichok.

You are just a f*cking brainless imbeciles on the West!
