The point is perhaps up to 99% of US COVID19 deaths may have been avoidable with an intelligent and coordinated response to COVID19. Instead we got Trump's swiss cheese xenophobic approach to international travel, no coordination, and that resulted in 215k and climbing deaths, along with harsher internal lockdowns and economic damage than necessary.

The way to avoid the lockdowns was quarantine on incoming travelers, testing, and contact tracing. Trump didn't do it so internal lockdowns happened.

This position is ridiculous because most of the deaths occurred in blue states and the politicians there are responsible.

Not true, and furthermore there is no statistical evidence that lockdowns help.

He found that the difference is dependent on population density regardless of lockdown type. IOW, NYC would have high case rate even if they didn't lockdown

NZ showed how to do it. Quarantine, testing, contact tracing, masks, social distancing.

Trump showed how not to do it.

Illustrates the absurdity of State by State piecemeal approach with no national coordination.

Has nothing to do with effectiveness of national policy with quarantine, testing, and contact tracing. Trump blew it, States were left scrambling without a real chance.

The funny thing is you're just proving it was Trump's fault. State by State approaches can't work. It had to be coordinated nationally as Federal controls borders.

No. It has to do with the point, that you can't stop the virus from spreading and lockdowns don't decrease cases.

                  Testing etc was all done.

New Zealand is in the perfect situation for that strategy because they didn't yet have the virus and they can effectively control their borders. Maybe the flatten the curve option was better for us, maybe it wasn't. But no one in the US was calling for closed borders. So don't blame Trump. He's not even an epistemologist.

                        NZ did it. Trump failed.

NZ had at least 60 separate different introductions, and even some community spread. You're just making things up. Vietnam has land border with China. Both have contained it by quarantine.

Plenty of people were calling for quarantine, contact tracing, and testing. Trump was dismissive of the danger, and was the only one who could have controlled the border. That's POTUS job, it's what Trump ran on, and he failed spectacularly.

                            Yep... Trump failed.
He lied to the American People
Touted his late stoppage of flights from China, which still allowed flights in from China
And did pretty much nothing else...
And the results are obvious to everybody.
                            Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

With asymptomatic spread we don't even know when the virus got here, and how many people had it. NZ got lucky.

Like Australia, and the dozens of other countries with significantly lower infection rates than the US? Most of our cases came from the US, not China.
