This is how America really works ! We do not accept Trump's BS loser fascist vision!!!

We are not Turkey, or Russia, or China, we are the g damn United States of America!

The Lincoln Police Department and community leaders sat down and drafted an agreement to "Hold Cops Accountable". Then they all danced together. Because why not. I'm sure it's far from perfect, but even if it's only a baby step in the right direction this outcome is so much better than what is going on in other parts of the country right now. It makes my heart swell. Our friend Fred Rogers said to 'Look for the helpers'. If you're feeling bummed out about life right now, I hope this helps a tiny bit. Hang in there.

Trump can't hold us down. That mf'er is LOSING like the LOSER he is!!!

    When you got:
    • United States Marine Corps General
    • A priest
    • Former Republican President

All denouncing him at the same time, you know he dun f'ed up.

    YOU'RE FIRED MISTER PRESIDENT.

    USA!

I am really confused by what you call Russiagate? Do you mean what led to Muller's investigation? Just because the DOJ holds the president above the law and 2/3rds of senators do not think that obstruction of justice is impeachment worthy doesn't mean that there was nothing there. The DOJ deciding that they want to not prosecute Flynn is a blaring sign of corruption after transcripts, evidence and so on that Flynn lied and was guilty.

Do you get all your news from Fox/Breitbart/etc?

No. I was here for all ... what, six, eight, twelve months it dominated the conversation here? It started with a very sparse collection of not-terribly-damning facts (Trump people talked to Russians at these times about something and that could conceivably have been criminal) plus some unverified salacious gossip compiled by a foreign spook. Mueller got called in to investigate, and time after time everybody here got excited that [X] had agreed to turn coat and testify and oh boy, now we were really going to nail Trump to the wall! Except nothing concrete ever materialized, and by and by the investigation got somebody else to rat, and oh boy we were really going to nail Trump, and blah blah blah the names went on but the story stayed the same. It didn't even particularly make sense from Putin's perspective, and I said so at the time, but there was always one more guy who was willing to give evidence, and then Trump screwed a porn star and paid her off with the wrong slush fund and for some reason I recall CNN was breathlessly excited over the possibility that he might not have used a rubber.

And then it turned out that there was no more substance than was evident at the start, so Trump was guilty of "obstruction of justice," ie he acted like Trump and tried to bully people whom he perceived as disloyal. Which I guess isn't nothing, but since the investigation was blatantly stupid in the first place it's a bit like the cops snatching a repeat offender as he's walking down the street, wrestling him into cuffs while he screams and cusses, finding absolutely nothing incriminating on him, and charging him with resisting arrest. Only in this case the whole endeavor was quixotic from the beginning because everybody knew the GOP was never going to turn on him for anything short of video footage of Trump curbstomping a baby. Whatever. The election was legitimate and you wasted your time. There was nothing impressive about an investigation that went on for like a year and somehow failed to find meaningful dirt on the walking wad of criminality that goes by the name Donald Trump.

Any of you guys lawyers or at least armchair lawyers?

It appears multiple Constitutional laws were broken from the White House tear gassing, specifically the first Amendment. Pretty much every clause in the 1st Amendment was violated.

            Freedom of Speech
            Freedom of Assembly
            Freedom of the Press
            Freedom to Petition
            Freedom of Religion

Others have argued 3rd Amendment (no housing of soldiers in civilian buildings) and 6th Amendment (right to a public trial without unnecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and the right to know who your accusers are) were also violated but I am not seeing any visual evidence of that unless there's more information out there that I haven't digested yet.

Also we have multiple Administration officials lying about the purpose of the attack, along with the ammunition that was used against the protesters.

Seems like an airtight case to me but who is actually going to do the prosecution? Mitch McConnell? LOL

Kamala Harris is already going after Attorney General Barr (Trump fellatio captain) and asking him to swear under oath about what happened. If they can undermine Trump's legal defenders there may be a way to chip him down.

Would also add campaign laws as well, since government/tax payer resources were used to finance a political ad.

See, none of the investigations had anything to do with the election being illegitimate. Rather it was about whether Trump's underling's (and Trump himself) were compromised by the Russians. It was pretty obvious that some of the underlings (Manafort/etc) were, and the investigation could only go so far because of the Obstruction of Justice (And this is one of the reasons why Obstruction of Justice is a serious offense, because any investigation no matter how correct the premise is, can only go so far against a president determined to Obstruct Justice).

It turned up corruption and wasn't a waste of time. Just because it didn't cause Trump to be removed from office doesn't mean that investigating corruption is a waste of time.

I really don't understand your position here. Manafort, Stone and Flynn did serious things wrong. And Stone and Manafort had been doing so for some time. The slap on the wrist is better than nothing, and reflects the biases in our system and not that taking actions against political corruption is invalid or a waste of time.

BTW, the difference between corruption and legitimacy of the election is important. Nixon's election in 1972 was legitimate, Nixon walloped McGovern and would have still done so without dirty tricks. The dirty tricks, and his involvement in the cover-up and so on were corruption and he resigned for that. Whether Russian actions were the deciding factor in the 2016 elections it less clear, but the actions of some of Trump's underlings is clear as is Trump's Obstruction of Justice to halt the investigation. If you believe that the election was legitimate (and that Russian involvement was not the deciding factor in the 2016 elections) then that makes the parallels between 'russiagate' and 'Watergate' even more exact. Except Nixon lost support of his base and resigned and Trump has kept support of his base and went on to use the power of the presidency to try and cause a foreign country (Ukraine) to influence our election to help him get elected and to obstruct justice is that investigation as well. While he was impeached and not removed for that, it looks like he will continue to abuse power in an attempt to win the 2020 election.

            JM
(I will admit that I don't watch TV, so maybe the presentation on CNN/etc is much different than what was presented in the Economist/Atlantic/etc ... )
(Russian involvement in the 2016 elections could have been the deciding factor and the election could still be legitimate, the election would only not be legitimate if the voting/etc was hacked ... which isn't anything that the Mueller investigations or any of the similar investigations were investigating... so I don't understand why you are conflating legitimacy and Russian influence of our elections.)
(Obviously Russian influence would be bad, even if the election was legitimate)

And meanwhile we have Portland cops playing favorites by calmly talking the Proud Boys (right wing fascist group) to take cover because they are about the tear gas the place and clear people out.

How many rounds are the magazine of his weapon? Same bull**** as the haircut protesters, showing up heavily armed and treated like part of the family.

This murder of George Floyd is terrible. It is racism. We know ourselves that racism also exists here which is why we still have a lot to do.

I thought the link to racism and fascism and the obvious example in 1920s-1940s Germany would be obvious.

Americans fetishize WW2 so we should be following her example not go fantasizing about Saving Private Ryan

It's the exact kind of cop group think that needs to end! That senior citizen was brutalized and nearly died (not sure his current status) from a head injury and the cops are STILL defending the guys that did it as "JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS." Are you guys really listening to what you are saying? (Another reference to no lessons learned from fascism).

                      • I just attended a BLM rally in Winnipeg... about 20,000 in attendance, by my estimation.

And Jimmy Carter just became the latest ex-US President to comment on the George Floyd murder.

There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.
