AntiFa, 76 years ago.... I'm 100% sure Trump's family were against them too...
The name was a stroke of genius, of course, it is all a lie as they are not anti-fascists and instead anarcho-communists and they simply declare anyone who opposes their use of political violence to be “fascists” even though they aren’t. The video of white Antifa thugs in Austin burning all of a homeless man’s few possessions because he didn’t want them to burn the building he slept in front of really shows how bull**** Antifa really is.
They gave him a new tent and some clothes, not an apartment and a job
as the Buffalo, from what I understand the cops who resigned from the emergency response team did so because the city was supposed to pay for the legal defense of the 2 cops and wouldn't.
So, I'm trying to distance myself from social media more, but I keep hearing "defund the police" suggestions. Do some of the people who say that have alternative proposals for law enforcement, or is it all just absurd idealism? I know there are plenty of past societies where organized police forces didn't exist, but I wouldn't necessarily want to transplant their examples to the present. Responsibility for law enforcement tended to devolve onto the ordinary public, which would in modern contexts probably mean a lot of vigilantism.

The idea is that we have been offloading a lot of what society needs to deal with to police officers. Police officers are suppose to make up for inadequate ways to deal with societies drug problems, societies mental health problems, societies problems with education, societies problems with homelessness and more. And police officers are poorly trained, have guns and have few answers other than the obvious.
Defunding the police (not entirely, but cutting back what we expect them to do by a lot) would improve the lives of the remaining police as well as how well society functions.
America needs to rethink its priorities for the whole criminal-justice system.

Well, that's not as bad as it sounds. Good luck getting there in the current climate, but all I'd seen of it before was some really naive-looking slogans and crap. Thank you.
Everything about this situation is ridiculously confrontational, given that I still haven't found anyone who thinks Floyd wasn't murdered. We began with a situation everyone agreed on and somehow wound up hating each other anyway. This damn country/disease/president, I tell ya ...
I now have seen some far left support for completely defunding and rebuilding from the ground up community policing.
This is still far cry from the calls to abolish ICE, for example.

If there was ever something that had the wrong motivations...
As I told my grandfather... what happens as ICE gets more successful? What are the incentives of ICE?
It is much scarier than the prison-industry or military-industry or war on drug mis-incentives because ICE acts internally and doesn't follow judicial rules (it is an administrative action not judicial, so they can just pick you up... ).
