Antifa is more of a movement than a real organization, yes. I suspect the real answer is "all of the above, plus some people who have no particular ideological principles but do enjoy smashing stuff." IMO looting should be considered separately from assault and destruction of property; looting can highly lucrative and I've heard some of it was carried out by semi-organized groups (as in, driving a truck up to the store and targeting the most valuable merch), while picking a fight with POed and armored policemen pretty much has to be its own reward.
Also I don't think they're "outsiders" in the sense of traveling in from out of the area, for the most part. Given the sheer geographical area covered here, they'd have to be basically playing musical chairs around the country. Rather, I think it's that a certain percentage of the protest-minded people in any given area are going to be antisocial dickbags for one reason or another.
