Amid Pandemic and Recession, Ivanka Trump-Led #FindSomethingNew Campaign Denounced as 'Stunningly Tone Deaf'
A White House initiative to compel American workers to find different jobs as the coronavirus pandemic rages and millions are out of work is under fire for what critics are describing as a thoughtless tagline: "Find something new."

The early guidance on masks was a major error - as far as I can tell it was driven by fear that if the public bought up the masks, the PPE shortage for healthcare workers would've been even worse. Instead of saying "masks are great but we don't have enough so stay home until we produce more" they said "masks don't really work" which was wrong wrong wrong.grog want tank...Grog Want Tank... Personal anecdote time. 2 weeks ago, my youngest daughter had a fever. Her mother took her to a clinic and had her tested for Covid. That was the morning of July 2nd. We got the result (negative, yay) TEN DAYS LATER, on July 12th. 'Murica, y'all!
School reopening planning proceeds. I honestly don't know if they can square the circle. Kids are really good at spreading germs, but in my experience they can be taught to wear masks and wash hands. It can likely be done, somehow. Distance learning doesn't work very well, even for my kids who are pretty advanced for their ages. Of course, if we had even semi-competent leadership we might be able to open without so much concern. Many other countries are able to do so because they took the appropriate steps. But not 'Murica. Oh, no. We'll do it OUR way. The Max Power way.Last edited by Arrian; July 15, 2020, 21:02.grog want tank...Grog Want Tank... GROG WANT TANK!

In Korea and Taiwan the kids all wear masks and they have shields all around their desks.
However, their entire societal response is much more disciplined where everyone is wearing masks, all the time, without all this ignorant drama about rights.
I've heard it said by American school board decision makers that children are getting the virus at low rates (dumb thinking) so the risk of them getting infected is low.
EVEN if that were true, they can pick up the virus and spread it when they get home, like wildfire to the rest of society.
I think distance learning should be given another shot, I don't accept the narrative that it just doesn't work.
When something doesn't work, doesn't mean it won't ever work, it just means we need to learn what all the challenges were and address those.
This distance learning took place when none of the schools were setup for it, so they had to scramble at the last minute to even get it up. A more thoughtful approach could easily be successful.
I think also a lot of the resistance to distance learning is it's just driving parents crazy who don't want their kids home all day with no break, especially while trying to work.Last edited by Ted Striker; July 15, 2020, 21:54.We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. - Abraham Lincoln
