AFAIK Halloween is an excuse for male kids in conservative (and/or religious fundamentalist) families to shock their parents by declaring they want to go as Black Panther or Wonder Woman

when I was a kid living in Marin County just north of San Francisco people I knew set up an elaborate haunted house every year and needed volunteers for their displays. They put a harness on me and hung me from a scaffold or hangman's gallows. I dont remember if it was technically a lynching or not.Comment
