  • Strong and stable leadership

...was May's motto which she doesn't use so much anymore after the election left her in a weakened position.

Now Merkel chimes in with...NEW elections after attempts to form a coalition gov failed.

The only way you could have strong leadership is if Putin invaded you.

It didn't work for the US.

there always is the scarecrow of the AfD lurking in the background.

If they win, it would be the equivalent of Trump winning the US-Elections ..
and no german in his/her right mind would actually want this

So, strengthening Merkel may be still the lesser evil compared to some alternatve outcomes of elections 2.0
(there may still be the option of strengthening the SPD (so they get the most votes), but I am afraid, hanks to Trump, Erdogan and Putin in power in their countries, we might need someon experienced in forein policies, like Merkel, in power in germany)

It seems like Ben prefer either a nazi right wing or a socialist secular government in germany.

One may think that Ben really don't have a clue about german politics.

Who has to dream? From a eurocom point of view Trump is an authoritarian, and we have him for our own president.

Aye ... which explains why you like Trump.
Although I assume that you still envy the russians because they not only have an authoritarian leader, but one that also is intelligent (to a certain degree)

It seems that the people want an election and the populists are likely to pick up seats.

If you ask me the leftist plan for Europe is insane. You should try something like what Japan is doing. Also promote the family.

Actually, the CDU (Merkels Party) is the conservative party in germany and stands for the "traditional family" (i.e. between a man and a woman),
up to the point that Merkel (and her party) in these regards tood against the majority of the german population, with her reluctance to actually introduce homosexual marriages (the majority of germans are rather pro homosexual marriages).
Its strongest contender, the SPD, is rather left from them (likewise the Green Party, which would have been part of the Jamaica coalitiion, if not the FDP (which is traditional seen as the businessmens party) had blocked all efforts at coming to an agreement)

That even he CDU in your eyes is leftist, is only attributed to the fact that europe generally is more to the left than the USA.

It we would try to attribute US standards of left and right, I would say that the CDU is roughly comparable to the Democrats.
The GOP on the other hand would only be comparable to rather rightwing european parties, like the german AfD (maybe with a little bit FDP intermixed), the french Front national (i.e. Le Pens party) or the ruling party in Poland (Law and Justice)

Well the Ds are not traditionalists. I obviously prefer Merkel to any of them, but it seems that the CDU does not like American conservatives so much.

Merkel actually had rather good relations to George Bush jr.
But yes, the huge shift to the right (of the GOP and american politics) that came with Trump is too much, even for the CDU.
(including the racism and anti-environmentalism that were introduced with trumps policies ... not even Bush jr. government went this far )

I think Bush fooled you He tried to fool people over here, but people didn't believe it, except that he was pro-immigration.

The Bush family is anti-Trump because Trump is America First. The Bushes are very unpopular with conservatives btw. Senior is a woman abuser and voted for Hillary even.

The Bushes are only really unpopular with the Trumpublican folks, especially the anti-globalist Brietbart wing.
Traditional GOPers actually long for a return to the relative sanity of Bush.
