Stalin was not harmless at all! (after all, my own grand father who was a chief of cavalry division have been arrested in 1937 and executed). Stalin was a product of his time! And a genius politician and a nation builder. But, he was NOWHERE NEAR, as horrible, as you have in your heads due to Western propaganda! If you read the real history and analyze the flow of events, you would realize the truth. But, you Westerners are pretty happy with a brainwashed version of history.
And yes - Khrushchev and his "de-Stalinization" campaign played a grave role in the destruction of the Soviet Union, because while chasing his own quest for power and blaming the previous ruler in all sins exaggerating them out of any thinkable proportions Khrushchev have laid down a mine under the basement of the Soviet state and thus was nothing, but a puppet of foreign forces.
