I said wealthy people migrate away from California's cities retiring to more scenic or less costly places (I know, what a surprise). I didn't say low income people were wealthy and you confused cities with the state. Defining 'wealth' differently than me doesn't make me a liar. Elderly retirees cashing out aren't wealthy? How do they compare to the people replacing them?

The replacements for elderly cash outs by definition are richer than the elderly who are cashing out. After all, they are the ones who are buying the property at the high price and continuing to live in the high cost area.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

I apologize for calling you a liar. This topic gets covered a lot over at city data forum and I know this was some sort of talking point in the right wing media but it does not stand up to any scrutiny.Originally posted by Berzerker View Post

So true, after all they have the money to buy. The reality is retirees see a drop in oncome and they are not as economically dynamic. They are living on pensions, social security, and saved capital. They are not, generally, founding new companies and being risk takers. Yes, that they bought homes in California between the 1960's and the 00's means they have seen big capital appreciations. No, that does not mean they have free capital to investe or are wconomically dynamic.Originally posted by pchang View PostThe replacements for elderly cash outs by definition are richer than the elderly who are cashing out. The man iindicator of true economic wealth on thos state is the state incomevtax failings and that goes up and down with economic qctivity in the state. In 2009 the roght wing media was announcing 50% of the millioniares have left California! When in reality their assets were safe and what they were measuring was state income tax returns. So true. In economic down cycles there are fewer high income earners than in economic good cycles. Few if any had actually left thw state. Most were just retrenching for the turn around.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

the replacements are not wealthier Californians buying up property, they're people moving into California - Dinner was comparing migratory populations - and those people are not as wealthy as the retirees headed out of the big cities.Originally posted by pchang View PostThe replacements for elderly cash outs by definition are richer than the elderly who are cashing out. Accepted... but my family has lived the exodus, and still is with my sister leaving the big city for a rural life. We ended up here but Idaho and Arizona were considerations. The retirees leaving are wealthier than the people replacing them.Originally posted by Dinner View Post

As the example of Donald Trump shows, both of these things are correctOriginally posted by Kidicious View Post

Might as well put this here, since most people here are just going to ignore this like they do Marxists running the streets of California,
