There are also flights you can take which are specifically running along the path of the eclipse. So you can get above the clouds and get a couple more minutes of totality.

The day is here. I'm in South Carolina, where the weather forecast is not quite as nice as I would want it to be after a 500 mile, 11 hour drive. I'm hoping it stays as clear as it is right now.

I've got a bunch of eclipse glasses, index cards for pinhole projectors, and my astronomical binoculars with solar filter film affixed in front of the lenses (in a very makeshift fashion). And sunblock and a hat.

It's supposed to be only partly sunny in Chicago

You sound prepared, but we would expect that from you
They are predicting that THOUSANDS of people will develop serious eye issues today thanks to the Eclipse. Darwin says...

Currently sitting in Hiawatha, KS, waiting for totality in oh, three and a half hours or so, and desperately hoping that the clouds will clear at some point before then.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Hey, you're right down the center line. Nice. You're going to get about 30 seconds more totality than I am.

Hopefully it's that and not thirty seconds more cloud.

It was very heavy overcast in Winnipeg during the eclipse. I was at an outdoor TV film shoot. We had about a 30 second window of 70% coverage. I saw a total eclipse in '79 through welders' mask, so this was nice too.

Would have been cooler if instead of the sun the Eye of Sauron would have shown up after the moon had passed....
