              • The Constitution of the US allows reasonable searches, and eavesdropping on spies clearly is reasonable.
The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty…we will be remembered in spite of ourselves… The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.

Statistics are not applicable in determining whether or not a decision is reasonable. 75% of the time, the US person involved in a FISA wiretap is not unmasked, 25% of the time they are. this was one of the cases falling in the 25% category, Mr. IDontKnowAnythingAboutStatistics. Ignorance is not an excuse for your reation of arguments based on fake news you create yourself. Basically, if you sell out the US to the Russians, you'd better not take to them on the phone, or it's your ass (just ask former NSA and registered agent for Russia Mike Flynn). Stupid is as stupid does, though.

This is not standard practice. This is unprecedented!
But the most recent government data shows that unmasking or identifying Americans happens in a limited number of cases. The Office for the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the 17 intelligence agencies, said "...in 2015, NSA disseminated 4,290 FAA Section 702 intelligence reports that included U.S. person information. Of those 4,290 reports, the U.S. person information was masked in 3,168 reports and unmasked in 1,122 reports."

"Limited"? Over 1,000 in one year is not unprecedented

if you're an analyst and you have a conversation between the russians and an american, you might need to know who the american was to understand the conversation. And until the names are unmasked, the analyst doesn't know if the american is a political opponent.
