Insiders of the WH have said that the actually was about russsia probe, combined with Trumps frustration that Comey wouldn't suppot his baseless claims about Obama wiretapping Trumps house and because Comey didn't put the same amount of energy (as into the russsia probe) into researching where the leaks are, which have repeatedly told the media internas from the WH.

(of course the question remains how long the investigation will keep running ... guess, if the replacement that Trump installs is aware of the Loyalities he has to display (i.e. loyality to the president, not the american people) then the russian probe will get stopped immediately and all FBI resources will get spend into finding the WH leaks )

Trump again repeated his assertion, contained in the letter firing Comey, that the former FBI head had told Trump on three separate occasions that he was not personally under investigation regarding any possible collusion with Russian officials.

“And I’ve heard that from others,” Trump said.

He went on to detail the occasions when Comey told him he was in the clear.

“I had a dinner with him, he wanted to have dinner because he wanted to stay on,” Trump said. “…And I said, ‘I’ll consider we’ll see what happens’…And at that time he told me, ‘You’re not under investigation,’ which I knew anyway.”

Nope ... you repeatedly quoted Trump where he claimed that Comey told him this (i.e. that he is not uner investigation).
I haven't seen any quote where Comey actually said this himself.

To be more exactly:
In the press briefing yesterday Sarah Huckabee was asked at which occasion Comey told Trump, that he is under no investigation.
And Sarah Huckabee was unable to answer

So the press people also don't seem to know at which occasion these alleged assurances of Comey towards Trump are supposed to have taken place.

Seems to me like there are no independent confirmations for Trumps claims (that Comey said those thngs to him).
And I am highly sceptical about unverifyable claims that come from someone who has repeatedly shown in the past, that his relationship with "truth" is rather loose and noncommittal

No sir. I know he's not under investigation because most importantly Comey told the Congress that he wasn't. I reported that to you. I don't deny reality like a liberal does. I keep my eyes open.

It is your hpothesis that Trump is under no investigation.
But it is not my theory that Trump is under investigation.
My assumption is that we don't know whether or not Trump is under investigation.
And that Trumps claims, that Comey told him that he is under no investigation, are alternative facts

But I also think tht a number of members of the Trump team are under investigation (or close to the targets of investigation) and that those investigations may also reveal things that are embarassing for Mr. President.

And nope, I don't think that those investigations will necessarily turn up any evidence. If Trump appoints smeeone as new FBI director, who knows that he has to be loyal to the PoTUS and not to the american people (perhaps someone from the Trump family, after all Trump still has a few sons who have no position in the US gvernment yet ... perhaps Barron, that would make him the youngest FBI director ever) then this new FBI director will know that his duty is, to strip the rrussia investigation of all its resources and instead put those resources into finding the WH leaks which provide the fake news media with informations
