I'm waiting to hear yours. You made a point seeming to claim that a country could stop being religious very quickly, and now seem to be backing off from that position. Would you like to find a position you like and stick with it? I'm not busy.

It's not like every man, woman and child in Germany was personally throwing Jewish babies into the furnace. The Nazi hierarchy was many-layered, with varying degrees of loyalty and culpability. The majority of the population did not suddenly abandon their cultural identity as Christians, no. That doesn't happen. But the Nazi ideology itself was more pseudoscientific, with a strong veneer of addled Germanic paganism, than Christian.

Muslims consider the Quran (Koran), their holy book, to be the verbatim word of God as revealed to the Islamicprophet and messenger Muhammad. They also follow the teachings and practices of Muhammad (sunnah ) as recorded in traditional accounts (hadith). "Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)".,,

The Nazis did not come to power through democratic means. They had a small leadership core from the very beginning which seized power under sketchy circumstances and ruled by intimidation. The majority of the population did not actively rebel against them, but then the majority of the Cambodian population did not rebel against Pol Pot and we do not take that as proof that they all wanted to be dirt-poor illiterate rice farmers. Nor do we assume that most North Koreans legitimately want to worship their present tubby demigod. Totalitarian states do not work that way.

Nor am I arguing that "Christians had nothing to do with it." Many of the camp guards and stormtroopers would have been practicing Catholics or Protestants. But their Christianity was not the driving force of their behavior as Nazis, because Nazism was not a Christian movement.

All of which is completely true, and I wouldn't try and put the entire responisibility onto Christianity because I think its lazy and gives too much of a pass to the people directly responsible. It is however responsible for much of the groundwork leading up to that point.

Its only relevant currently because of Kid trying to apportion collective guilt to Muslims. I'm sick of hearing the same 'arguments' that only ever lead to one group of innocent people or another getting persecuted for someone elses profit.

Sorry this is false, they used some electoral fraud later to consolidate power, but they only reached that stage through actually democratic means.

Why are you arguing with Kid again? He's a manifest loon. Under the new ignore system, he doesn't even appear unless somebody quotes him. No grey blocks or anything. The only sign I have of Kid's existence is people arguing with him and the little notes on the main forum notifying me that Kid was the last poster in a thread.

Try ignoring him. You can't click-to-read anymore, so you have to actually go into your preferences and manually delete him from your list to make his nuttery visible. Which is way more effort than it's worth. Willpower no longer required. Of course, you now have to actually go into settings and manually type him in in the first place . . . but only once.
