    I didn't realize a country needed free trade within itself. Did the States charge each other tariffs? Did they all have to sign deals?

        What happens internally in a country is called domestic consumption. If you eat a potato from Idaho that isn't related to so called "free" trade.

          Errmm... yes it is... there is free trade between states. If you forced everyone in New Jersey to only buy potatoes that were grown in New Jersey, the poor in New Jersey would be worse off.

              Domestic consumption in the United States is free of tariffs and other trade barriers, making it free trade. Some countries do have barriers to trade between different parts of the country.

                        Actually, yes, at one time U. S. states did charge each other tariffs. Which is one of the reasons the constitution forbid such restraints on trade when it replaced the articles of confederation.

                          That isn't free trade. That is a unified country doing internal business. You view free trade as a cure all and I question that dangerous mindset.

                          Oh and I gave my definition of free trade. Corporate colonalism basically. Blood diamonds is one key example of this.
