Oh but they are a great example of free trade. Free trade has no regulations.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

        Free trade is corporate colonialism.
You're describing laissez-faire, not free trade.

Corporate colonialism relies on trade restrictions to protect the colonizer from competition. Not quite as opposite as blood diamond, but close.

No, they are an example of illegal trade.

Free trade isn't mutually exclusive with regulations.

Free trade is without any regulation.

              • if by "splitting hairs" you mean using the actual definition of free trade, then yes.

But free trade is a euphemism. It isn't what you think it is. And no, the actual definition is corporate colonialism.

So that's it? That's your definition of Free trade?
I guess I can understand now why it's difficult to be having a conversation on free trade when that is your only definition.

Here is another one: Free trade is where companies (usually MNCs) go to other lands, strip the land of all material wealth and give little to no benefit to the poor or anyone living in the area. Here is a key example of this: The Niger Delta. Shell. Shell basically went in there and fleeced the land of petroleum. They never gave back to the locals and didn't even bother to help in improving infrastructure. Now the entire region is seeing serious unrest all because of...

                        FREE TRADE.

Free trade causes civil wars and unrest because the locals never see any benefit from it.

                            Yes it is.

Here it is in more simple terms:

Resource stealing and not helping anyone in the local area.

                                Free trade = resource stealing.

                                Yup. A definition!
