Not only restrictions were in place for much longer (granted for some eastern states) but the root of the problem was not immigration but dismantlement of social provisions.
Some cunning people decided to blame immigrants, achieving the withdrawl of the UK from the EU. That includes UK votes on almost all things including sanctions.
The UK is completely isolated and treated as a pariah in all EU institutions (much to the sagrain of the brits there because, they obviously are, europhiles)
Plus the US has lost its primary "conduit" to the EU.Comment
