Wouldn't Google have earlier caches of the site? I tried looking, but their latest is the 'restored' version.

Google has cached copies (at varying dates), but converting the html back into the database would be a big project.

Aeson, the site has been at times, not loading today. Sometimes it will take several minutes to load a page, even after closing and reopening tabs. It happened just a few minutes ago as well.

any ideas what is going on/fixes?

Just got an Error 522: Connection timed out.

Says something on the site might be hogging too many resources and gave this troubleshooting link.

Well anyone can copy paste some text from the caches.

But to actually restore it would need custom scripts to find the threads that need to be restored, open the cached copies, parse the html for thread title, #, usernames, dates, post texts ... then format all that for the database and insert it without overwriting any new threads that use the thread #.

Several crawlers/bots were going crazy on the site, overloading the server. I've blocked some of them ... server load average had spiked up to 100 because of them (1 being ~100% resource utilization) ... now dropped back down to 0.46

If you are using Apolyton Blue style then there is a jump to link at the top of the thread. If you use the mobile style there isn't one that I know of.

All the other styles should still work the same.

Okay, here's what I got; first I should note that one of the three tabs my computer starts firefox on is the "New Posts" search page. As you can see, the link (and associated bar) are there at the top:



This bar used to appear on every forum and bar page, but now doesn't:





I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. I missed it right away because I always use it.

Ah, I see. That menu is reactivated now. (Drop down menus won't work in the Apolyton Blue style though.)

Because sometimes I get the white with small blue/black elements, and sometimes the old orange thing (for example now the main forum page was white/blue, but the "full reply" page I'm using to write this has the orange style



Another thing I notice that I often login on the forum's main page, but when I want to reply to a thread just a few secs later it asks me to login again (happened too for this reply). Is this normal?

Well we've had worse data losses (like that time they dropped the whole Civ 2 creation forum by mistake).

The good thing is that I got logged out and discovered the poly blue theme, which is very nice, especially for posting from my phone. Nice

It lacks a 'thanks' button though.

I remember playing around with the blue theme awhile back, really liking it, but eventually switching back because there was some feature it lacked. I don't remember what that feature was. Also, I long for the days when Apolyton was gray, even though I don't have any visual memory of that time because my brain works poorly.

I think you may be viewing the phone theme. The thanks button is there on PC.
