You are likely to be getting false reports in the German media. This is unbelievable from an outsiders perspective. You are fine with the government doing this?

The german government doesn´t meddle with most media (the difference are the public broadcasting agencies which are actually controlled by a council made (among others) by members of all parties ... but those are only a small part of the german media ... most of the media are privately financed)

The situation that arose during the months before cologne actually largely stemmed from self censoring because the media feared that they would be seen as racist and/or right-wing, if they brought articles with regards to crimes by immigrants/asylum seekers.

And actually the danger always is there ... even before cologne there had been stones or molotov cocktails (or other acts of violence) by right wing idiots against asylum seeker accomodation centres (and their inhabitants as well as people working there).

And as someone else already mentioned in this thread, *******s like those in cologne are actually the minority among the asylum seekers ... and I feel pity for women living in asylum seeker accomodation centres ... who may get terrorized by *******s like the ones at cologne, but also by right wing idiots within the german population

Therefore I can understand the problems the german government has with any volunteer organizations that claim to "just" want to protect the women (and other innocent persons) from *******s like the ones in cologne

The accusation is certainly there and it has been said several times before. I tend to think where there is smoke there is fire but I am willing to hear what the politicians accused say. Right now, with the known cover ups and censorship, I am inclined to believe the worst. Certainly, wvery accusation needs to be looked into closely because so many of the accusations have turned out to be true.

Without having read the whole thread, in my home town, Canberra, Australia, we have an annual event called Summernats, where lovers of hotted up cars come from all over the country to celebrate hotted up cars for a week in early January. Every year during this period rape reports spike.

1.1 million refugees this year alone into Germany, and how many rapes attributed to migrant Muslims? Do the maths. A drop in the ocean, and no more than any group of people anywhere.

Given that government statistics are now accused of being falsified, with politicians telling police not to take reports on migrant crime so as not to spike the numbers, police being told not to record ethnicity of suspects so that migrant crimes cannot easily be identified, and just a general attempt to hide the problem... How can you say that? I am willing to bet that the real numbers for crime especially sex crimes is sky high for the migrants, many times the regular rate for Germans. 80% of them are males between 18-40 so they already would be over represented just due to demographics alone but when you add on that they are coming from cultures with truly horrendous attitudes towards women, well, the numbers won't be pretty.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy that this was not reported for this reason. I imagine there was some sort of pressure from the government which resulted in this failure of the media to report this incredible story.

How is that comparable to hundreds of women being sexually assaulted by angry racist men set out on controlling women and forcing them to stay in their homes?

A minority can be a serious problem. 1000 men set out to sexually assault women in an organized fashion is a serious problem.

Actually the real number of people who take/took part in the Düsseldorf-Group is much lower (AFAIK on their first patrol there were less than 50 persons who appeared ... they expected 1000 or more)

But yes, it isn´t seen with joy by the german state ... especially because it is feared that for one, there might be influence by right groups (like is the case in the Pediga-Demos) and for the other, because there always is the danger that those groups may overstep boundaries and might make situations worse than better.

Of course it remains to be seen if the german state itself (and the local governments of the federal countries) have learned from cologne and will successfully increase the protection of the citizens (by increasing the police forces and inhancing the surveillance capabilities) so that those groups will be unnecessary

All of those are reasonable concerns. That said, regular people also have reasonable concerns for their safety and that the justice system is supposedly very weak letting criminals go with just a slap on the wrist after which they go out and commit more crime. That this fellow in Kid's report intervined when he saw two migrants assaulting a woman on the streets is something he should be commended for, not arrested for.

Germany has one of the lowest police per capita in the 1st world and I am afraid that is going to have to change. A lot more police are going to need to be hired for people to feel safe, laws are going to need to be changed to hand down tougher sentences, and there is going to need to be zero tolerance shown for crimes in general. THAT would go a long way towards restoring people's faith in the state's ability to handle law and justice because right now your system is very deficient on that front.

I have heard this self censorship claim and it might be true but it really does need to be investigated for any government involvement. After all Merkel has already been caught red handed trying to influence (successfully I might add) to get social media companies to censor posts for her. I strongly suspect she has been trying to do similar soft touch censorship with the German media.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and I am sure Merkel thought she was doing a good thing by trying to censor social media but now all of her dealings are suspect. I am betting if someone digs we will find more of these meetings where she privately made her censorship desires known.
