An absolute giant in the recording industry and a true genius as a producer and arranger. He's one of those guys who, absolutely everyone who worked with him, artists and engineers alike, just adored. We've all been listening to Q for our entire adult lives. May he RIP.

            • Quincy Jones was working with The Beatles and Ringo couldn't get a drum set right, so Quincy had the crew break and he called in another drummer to do it without telling Ringo.

                        • Bob Uecker, announcer who was the comic bard of baseball, dies at 90

Bob Uecker, who transformed his futility as a baseball player into a successful second career as a baseball broadcaster, humorist and comic actor in television, film and commercials, died Jan. 16 at his home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He was 90.

The Milwaukee Brewers, for whom he was a longtime radio announcer, announced the death. In a statement released by the club, Mr. Uecker’s family said he had battled small cell lung cancer since early 2023.

Before he was known for two enduring catchphrases — “I must be in the front row!” from a Miller Lite commercial and “Just a bit outside” from the movie “Major League” — Mr. Uecker spent six years in the major leagues as a backup catcher and first-string clubhouse comedian. Among a long list of baseball jokers, he is widely considered the funniest.

RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

IIRC he got a lot of early recognition with a couple appearances on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show that were absolute classics. Dude was just plain funny, and basically got famous for being himself. Ueck will be missed. May he RIP.

                        • And on Carson, he was so deadpan.
