That's not a slippery slope, thats a direct effect of allowing public racist speech. Which is why racial violence dropped dramatically when we banned it.
Few subjects provoke as much public fascination and political concern as crime and criminality. Criminology is an ideal textbook for undergraduate students approaching the subject for the first time. It examines a wide range of topics, including historical and contemporary understandings of crime and criminal justice; different forms of crime - from street crime to state crime; who commits crime and who are the victims of crime; and how society and state agencies respond to crime and disorder. The contributions to this book offer clear, accessible introductions to the main topics and issues of criminology. Questions, summaries, further reading guidance, useful web links, and tables and diagrams can be found throughout. The third edition includes contributions from six new authors and contains new chapters on cybercrime, and 'crime, culture, and everyday life'. Online Resource Centre This book is accompanied by an extensive Online Resource Centre which can be used by lecturers and students alike. The resources available are as follows: Lecturer Resources Lecture notes by chapter Powerpoint slides to accompany lecture notes Test bank of multiple choice questions Student Resources Updates Chapter synopses Annotated further reading lists Interactive glossary Web links
It appears racial incidents are kind of around the same level. Sometimes less, sometimes more since 1997 (since the passing of the Protection from Harassment Act) - but it is reporting to the police that is somewhat difficult to really ascertain how many in reality.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Humorously, I was just trying to find the original thread and the first thing I stumbled across was this reply to a Lancer post..
I remember that thread; I did not mean that as a barb at Lancer, as I explained there. Can't type more now b/c tickity-tick tends to wake sleeping children. More later.

I know, I read the rest of it. Was still funny as hell though.
Going back to what Imran said, how exactly do you establish that the hate-speech law caused a decline in violence? Even if there had been a decline in violence, how would you rule out various confounding variables, like changing economic conditions or attitude shifts in the population? Post hoc ergo propter hoc isn't much better than slippery slope, after all. Of course, I also can't prove that a similar law here would cause a chilling effect on free speech; the much-publicized pansification of the American campus is the closest approximation I can give.
Re: non-protected classes, how is the ability to change one's view relevant? Are you suggesting that they ought to change their views to avoid an otherwise-justified punishment by their neighbors? "Well, if they didn't want to get screamed at, they should have had politically acceptable opinions." Is that about the shape of it? What if the neighbors are dirtbags who hate the person for a perfectly reasonable opinion, or a controversial one expressed without rancor?
And if harassment in general would cover cases like I mentioned, why are protected-class-specific laws necessary?
Hard to say. His accomplice Aeson appears to have hidden the original threads.
If you weren't such a moron you'd know those threads (at least the most entertaining ones) were actually moved to the old "deleted threads" forum which itself got deleted or hidden long before I had anything to do with running the site. Also you'd know Lancer was mainly attacking me in those threads and trying to break Net and I up.
This whole forum is hate speech. Getting upset about hate speech being allowed is silly. Without allowing hate speech how are we supposed to shame those who spew hate speech to the point everyone thinks they are a joke?

That is pretty old history, so it is possible that he's not a moron, just ignorant.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

A moron would be the person who in this troll-pit just foolishly showed it still bothers him.
It is interesting to note that, with BK banned; Kid and Reg Collider not posting, and me being nice, forum traffic has basically fallen off a cliff...
I'd say the majority of the remaining traffic is Sava broadsiding Elok with invective and MWHC's drunk threads, but neither is consistent enough to take up the slack, and the rest of you aren't nasty enough, or around enough.
Let's face it, poly thrives on hate and bigotry...

That bastard!
“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
"Capitalism ho!"

Again, you're just showing what a moron you are. I've already won that battle. I did so by consistently and doggedly pointing out the logical fallacies, lies, and personal failings of those who tried to attack the integrity of people I care for in real life. Every one of those threads I participated in ended up the same way, with *****es running away with their tails between their legs after realizing they had no shot to win and were only making themselves look like liars and bigots.
