Not stupidly risking your life isnt cowardice. Stupidly risking your life is just stupid.

The hero complex works in both directions. People doing bad things feel like they can risk more too. Most people are a hero in their own mind.

Like they said, you can try to fight and die, or just sit there and die.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Have you ever thought about how stupid a captain going down with his ship really is? It made kind of sense a long time ago because it was an attempt to ensure a captain would do anything possible to AVOID his ship sinking, but as a moral guide its ****ing appalling.

Or to put it another way, the French train staff took some passengers and barricaded themselves into a safe place. Had the attackers gun not jammed and the passengers who resisted had been killed the staff would have been treated as heroes. "Brave train staff saved passengers by barricading them away from the attacker!". Instead the gun jammed and the attacker was subdued, so the staff are now cowards who 'ran away'.

                          Seem fair to you?

but... but it's French surrender monkeys saved by brave USasians narrative, how do you have the heart to spoil that? They had to wait for more than half a century for it - you spoil-sport.

Nope, under no circumstance would the train staff have been hailed as heroes by the media.
