An interesting read, but it only covers the last 14 years of an even longer tragedy. It started with Papa Bush telling Saddam we didn't care about his squabble with Kuwait and then over reacting when Saddam took that as permission to seize a prize for spending nearly a decade fighting Iran. Bush lied us into that war too... Saddam wasn't invading Saudi Arabia and knew full well we had a treaty with them. We didn't have one with Kuwait, a matter of inquiry when meeting US Ambassador Glasby. Saddam was massing troops on the border and met with her to find out how we'd react if he took it. We didn't exactly draw a line in the sand. During the war Bush told the Iraqis to rebel leading them to believe we'd be allies only to end the war and watch them get slaughtered. Just imagine how much carnage could have been avoided had Bush told Saddam to stay out of Kuwait or ignoring him. It gets worse...
So Bush wins the war, he's a hero, and he keeps the army in Saudi Arabia to enforce sanctions. That didn't sit well with some people, a bunch of them had been fighting a Russian army in Afghanistan with our help. The Russians got tired of losing blood and treasure over the place and left, they gave up on the cold war too, and there we were putting an army into the Holy Lands. But we weren't getting attacked yet, it was only after we had a change of Presidents without a change in the policy that Muslims started their jihad. Clinton walked into office and kept the army over there to enforce sanctions and thats when the attacks began.
George W Bush becomes President and falls asleep with dreams of ousting Saddam for good and 9/11 happens. So we invade Afghanistan and bungle that operation, then reduce our commitment there and invade Iraq after months of lies to convince enough crooks in Congress to give their blessing. One of those crooks is married to the jackass who kept us in Saudi Arabia during the 90s even though we were getting attacked. And Hillary not only voted for that war she did it so she could run for President (anti-war Obama primaried her). So we have Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton wanting the job and one of them will be rewarded for their malfeasance with the White House. These two morally bankrupt families have spent a quarter century destroying countless lives
