being anti-union should be treated socially the same as being virulently racist

FDR was a racist so you could compare him to the Nazis I guess.

              From the letter, FWIW:

Organizations of Government employees have a logical place in Government affairs.
FDR was just against strikes by government employees. Reading the letter itself would have made that quite plain.

Yeah, and that's what the Tories are suggesting making more difficult, making the policies they are enacting more supportive of government sector unions than even FDR.

Also, IIRC JFK was against collective bargaining for government workers too.

I still contend there shouldn't be government sector unions.

Being more progressive than a United States President who served 70 years ago?! *gasp*

That's a little awkward, because the insane US tax laws make US passport holders liable for US taxes even if they've never lived there and get none of the protections.

A US president probably further to the left than any president before or since.

If public sector unions are permitted to go on strike, are the taxpayers permitted to fire them and rehire amongst themselves?

No, that's what governments get to decide.

it's interesting how the discussion has focused on government employees, but nothing has been said about the plans to make it easier to hire scab labour during strikes.

Republicans want to bring child labor back. I doubt they care.
