Here we go again: almost all diet advice is wrong (again)
Even if you accept their claims about fructose, that wouldn't make HFCS significantly different from sucrose (table sugar). Meaning I'm right. If you think fructose makes people fat, stop eating fruit.
Wrong. The fiber content of fruit is what specifically makes it different from HFCS.
The effect of meals containing Quorn myco-protein or chicken upon satiety and satiation were investigated in 18 lean, healthy male and female subjects using a within-subjects design. Both meals were designed to be similar in every respect with the exception of dietary fibre content (11 vs 3 g). Foll …

Try again.
You're essentially saying "eating fruit is better than drinking fruit juice". No ****. HFCS is still equivalent to sucrose. You're getting off topic by talking about fiber.
People, even self-described intelligent people like Lori, keep talking about how there are all sorts of things that affect calorie intake/outtake. Lori, your "algebra" is just sad. You aren't disputing literally the only point I've made in the entire thread--that calorie surplus = getting fat, calorie deficit = getting thin, so why the **** are you arguing with me and what the hell is your point?
Even if you have to eat even less than many other people to achieve a deficit, you can still eat less. Or exercise more. Maybe the road's a bit tougher for you than others, but you have total control over whether or not you are fat. The only question is whether you can summon the self-control to do so.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

As the number of fat people increases, it becomes more fashionable to believe in logical fallacies that are typically employed by fat people to absolve themselves of responsibility for being fat.

Bingo. Introspection makes people sad. Much easier to blame gut flora and genetics and mope around about how you can't get thin while stuffing your face with brownies.

This unfortunately goes way beyond apolyton by the way. I had a conversation with a computational genomics scientist here at CMU and it went something like this:
CG: Some people have gut flora that makes it harder for them to lose weight.
Me: But if they eat less, there is some amount of food at which they will lose weight. Reductio, if they eat nothing, they will definitely lose weight.
CG: It's not that simple!
Me: That's basic thermodynamics.
CG: No it's not!
This person is a PhD scientist in life sciences. What the ****ing ****.
If it makes you feel better, the PhD biologist in the room came in on my side so that's something.

I suspect you may have said something moronic to warrant that response ... maybe something like "THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT. 100% NOTHING ELSE FACTORS IN" ... because that's what you lead in with here.
I'm guessing the Philippines is full of fat people because healthy food is so much more expensive than junk food and nobody can afford to hire a personal trainer.

That is all there is to it. Yes there are factors that change the calorie equilibrium. But both the formula -- calories in vs calories out -- and the prescription -- cardio and dieting -- remains exactly the same. So that is all there is to it.
